4 out of 5 stars Really seems to work   May 24, 2007

I got this to go with the Mega Catch, not the Mosquito Magnet, for which it is designed. The Octanol which came with the Mega-catch did not seem to work at all even though we live in NJ which is ostensibly in the North and not in the Asian Tiger Mosquito range. Well, we seem to be catching them. It doesn't fit easily in the megacatch, which by the way is more durable than the Magnet, but it does seem to help. As the season progresses, I will do a more scientific study.

If you have Asian Tiger Mosquito's, you need to be using LUREX not Octenol. My catch rate is great after changing to Lurex.

1 out of 5 stars Can't Get it to Work in Florida   June 21, 2006

I switched from Octenol (which worked) to Lurex about 2 months ago and have not caught a mosquito since. I swabbed the tube where the attractant goes (per tech support), but it still does not work. I think the Mosquito Magnet is junk.

Mosquitos are still buzzing near me, but they aren't biting anymore.

4 out of 5 stars Works very well for me   July 24, 2007

I live in south Louisiana. I have a very large property (10 acres). I bought two Mosquito Magnets to put behind my house where the kids play and our patio is. During the first part of the summer I don't use any attractant at all and the Magnets do a great job catching lots of mosquitos and we rarely get bit. In mid July though we start getting bit again. This time from black mosquitos with white stripes instead of the regular brown mosquitos. These are the tigers. I bought some Lurex3 and suddenly the traps started filling with mosquitos again and we are no longer being bitten. This is our second summer using the Magnets. I think they are great. One thing though, I felt like such a dummy. The Lurex came with no instructions. There was an orange sticker on the side of the tube that said remove to expose holes. I removed the orange sticker thinking I had done what I was told. Turns out I was supposed to remove the semi-clear rubber coating that is wrapped around the tube releasing the goo inside from the many large holes in the tube. I am probably the only moron who did not do it right, but just in case someone else was confused this helps a lot with the thing actually working!!! duh! hehe. I give 4 stars because they did not include verbose instructions for dummies like me.
