Great collar, bad design February 3, 2010 Brandon D. Mulnix (Lowell, MI) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
In May 2009 I purchased this bark control collar for my little dog with a big bark. She's 5lbs and none of the other bark collars would work for her weight, so I opted for a trusted brand and collar that fit the exact description of my dog and her issues. (ie. Little dog, big bark.)
I was so excited to have finally made a decision (I thoroughly research before buying items such as this) and waited impatiently for it to arrive. I purchased this collar online from a third party, and it came shortly after purchase. I thought it was EXACTLY what we needed.
Although the idea is perfect for a little dog, sadly, the shape and firmness of the collar prevented it from connecting in the ideal spot for correction (ie. shock). No matter how tight or loose I made the collar, it simply would not stay in the correct place. Instead, it continuously turned to the side of her neck where it did not work as intended. I kept trying to fix it and put it back where it was meant to be, but it would not stay.
I ended up frustrated that this collar would not work as it was advertised. Therefore, on May 8th, 2009, I contacted PetSafe to explain my discouragement for their product. Unfortunately, I was unable to find my original receipt (although I did still have the package), thus, PetSafe would not stand behind their product and accept an exchange for a collar that 'might' work better.
My husband and I live on quite a tight budget and I was unable to purchase a new bark collar for my little dog. I had already bought a collar from a trusted manufacturer that was made especially for the little dog (which it says on the packaging). I didn't want to sell the collar to some other unsuspecting dog owner, it did not work as it was intended. I would NOT put someone else through the discouragement that I went through after purchasing this collar. So I kept it, on my counter, in the package, for months.
My little dog still had the bark issue, I had a collar that didn't work as it was advertised to, and I was out too many dollars and unable to purchase a new bark collar. Out of desperation, I decided, 'Well, if they won't return it, and PetSafe won't stand behind their faulty product, what else can I do?'
Looking at the collar I noticed that there was a tiny space between the plastic of the collar and the 'correction device'. I purchased a new plain dog collar, cut it to length, cut off the hard plastic strap of the PetSafe bark collar, and shoved the new nylon collar into the space between the plastic collar and the 'correction device'. I sewed that side of the new collar onto the 'correction device' then proceeded to do the same to the other side. To hold it onto my little dog's neck I sewed on two snaps then it was done. It may not look as pretty as it could, but it fit perfectly and the 'correction device' was in the right spot to correct the barking problem.
Today, February 2nd, 2010, for the first time since I purchased this collar, it shocked my little dog and I'm on my way to correcting the little dog with the big barking issue.
Little Dog Bark Collar by Pet Safe March 7, 2008 Barb (MO USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased 3 of these collars (Pet Safe 10782) and they are totally ineffective on 3 little dogs. First and foremost they shift and turn on the little dogs and settle somewhere on the side of their necks. Therefore the collar does not sit properly for it to work. In their item description Pet Safe says "With a unique duel-detection system that uses both vibration and sound sensors, as well as computer-controlled microprocessor technology..." They don't say that the collar will not fit little dogs correctly, will not stay in place correctly, and therefore will not work on little dogs. It must sit hanging straight down so that all three prongs, (especially the middle one)make contact with the dog's throat. I have spoken to Pet Safe and they are aware of this problem. Considering I cannot get these units to actually sit properly and no shock is emitted it also amazed me that the batteries in all of the units went dead over a 2 week period of trying all the fixes that Pet Safe recommended. I would not recommend this product.
Zap March 18, 2007 Babiche (Anchorage, AK United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It doesn't zap the yap of our newly adopted Pomeranian mix. Although we have seen her jump once or twice and it appeared to be the zap that did it, but it didn't slow her down much. We did everything according to directions, and even shaved a spot on her neck to help make better contact. We have used the shock trainer collar on our mastiff mix and it worked extremely well. I'm disappointed with this bark collar though.
Dog Collar December 31, 2009 Elly (North Royalton, OH United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found that this collar does work BUT what I don't like about it and wish I would have read reviews on it first is that the battery lasts all but 1 week. Upon contacting the company they say this is because it is for short term use which is not an acceptable reason for me since training is life long. Dogs are smart once the collar is off they will start the behavior up again especially since the battery life is so short. On the net you can find the batteries for 10.00 at the store you pay 12.99 for a battery if you can get away with it monthly that is 120.00 est a year on batteries that is the cost of the collar. The bigger dog collars have chargers for both the collar and the remote operator and that is what I would look for if you were looking to purchase an e-collar is that both collar and remote are chargable OR that the battery in the collar lasts more then 1-2 weeks when used throughout the day. It is a waste to get this collar not because it doesn't work but because of the battery consistantly having to be replaced.
total waste of money! May 13, 2009 A. Lawman (Vallejo, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
it doesn't work at all! I have 2 chihuahuas and the collar always slides to the side. it has never once picked up the sound or the vibration as it claims. save your money.
