Great small heater! November 22, 2006 A. L. Wagner 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this item for a small 2.5gallon isolation tank. With the temperature dropping outside, it was getting too cold for my ill fish. With this heater, my sick tank is now around 76degrees, which has helped with aiding my ill fish. The directions on the product about heating are very accurate, fas far as the temperature difference from room and then when you add the heater.
pleasant little heater February 24, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this little gadget to heat my Beta's bowl after he went into pseudo-hibernation. I was afraid a one-gal bowl would overheat so I got a 2-gal one for it. It started warming up immediately, and as all the other reviews state, it gets it about 5-10 degrees above room temperature. Since it doesn't have a thermostat, you really don't want it to do more than that for fear of overcooking your little friend. My Beta LOVES it. It took him two and a half weeks to come out of his stupor, but he's eating again. It's harmless enough that he actually huddled up behind it, so it clearly doesn't bother him to touch it. He likes it a lot warmer than room temperature (he's really happy at 80 degrees!). SAM (the fish) and I are both very thankful.
Makes the betta happy March 11, 2008 CSharp (Massachusetts) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My betta fish's water was mostly in the 60-degree range, below a betta's ideal temperature (70-80F). As a result, the betta was very inactive. I bought this heater for a one-gallon bowl, and it increased the water temperature about 10 degrees. Now the betta is very active. Even though the specs say it's designed for a 2-5 gallon tank, I'd still recommend it for a 1-gallon bowl. Just keep an eye on the ambient temperature because this heater does not have an automatic shutoff.
Keep the lid on March 6, 2008 Shermin R. De Silva (Philadelphia, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very safe and easy to use little heater. It's the only one I found that will work for 1-2 gallon tanks, and I too got it for my Beta. Comes with guide showing how much you can expect the water temperature to increase for a given volume. My tank's temperature went up 10-12 degrees. It's perfectly safe for the fish to touch, mine even huddled up behind it initially. The only thing to realize is that water only heats up if there's a lid to enclose it. So if you have a Beta bowl, you won't notice a change unless you cover the opening. For me this meant I had to take out the original plants and get an aquatic plant to control the algae that soon grew in the absence of the other plants. But that will be true of any safe heater since water won't heat up gently unless water vapor is kept from escaping. You really don't want it to do more than that since there's no temperature control and you don't want your fish to overheat.
Not the best heating solution for fish. September 17, 2008 Paul J. Shehadi 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought a nice little Corner 5 from Eclipse and there was not enough space for one of the tubular heaters to go in there, so I purchased this one thinking that it might help and the temperature would not go past 70 after leaving it in there for a whole day. Keep in mind that I was cycling the tank and no fish were tortured. The other thing is that while this unit was only around seven dollars. The shipping and handling was horrific. It was eight dollars and sixty eight cents for shipping and handling. So now I'm out about sixteen bucks and still have to find a heater because I had to transfer my baby mollies which were about 9 weeks old to a bigger tank because they just couldn't live in that breeder any longer. So to shorten the story a bit, I went to Petsmart and forked out about eighteen dollars on a decent 15 watt heater which is perfect for five gallons. Stay away from this heater unless it's for a goldfish bowl because that's all it can heat. Better yet, stay away from this heater unless you need to warm up a cup of coffee. It might take all day but at least it will get to seventy degrees.
