Dog Playpen February 17, 2008 T. Felts (La Salle, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very pleased when I received this pen. I adopted a 9-week old Yorkie from a rescue agency and that is what she had been sleeping in. I had read previous reviews on this product and knew there was no base pad available for it. So I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a piece of thick, clear plastic material (which can be found in the fabric section on long rolls) and cut it about 6-8 inches larger than the base of the pen. That is what I use as my base. Then if she misses the pad or spills her water, I know my carpet will be safe. I put her food and water in one corner, her bed in a corner and the pad on the opposite side in the back. If you are a person who has to work, I would advise purchasing two of the pens and connecting them so there is a larger area for the puppy to play and walk around. Because once you get the pen set up with their bed, food and water bowls and the pad, there is very little walk area left. For some reason my puppy will use the pad to pee on, but does not always go number two on it, so she will end up walking in it in the morning when she hears me get up. But if you connect two of the pens, which can be easily done, hopefully that would prevent this. The only reason I gave it four stars is because there is not any type of base available at this time. But the pen is very sturdy, easy to put together and is commercial grade material. I am very pleased with the pen itself, just wish they would come up with a base for it.
Not for large breeds April 11, 2008 J G (Maine) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this pen for my boxer puppy, thinking it would help contain her during the day while I'm at work, but giving her more room than a crate. She learned to climb over it the second day (10 weeks old). The pen itself is very easy to put together and is pretty solid and heavy enough so she can't lift it. I would recommend this for smaller dogs, but not large breeds, unless there is a secure cover to contain the dog, but I have yet to find one.
dog crate May 10, 2008 Valarie Sims (Hempstead, NY) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I rate this a one star because it is no help to me at this time. My puppy of 3 months old (yorkie) has been climbing out of this crate for a while and I am very disappointed in the construction of it. The way it is made it is very easy for the puppies to climb out. The fact that there is no cover made for this crate it proves unusable after the first month. I reviewed this item online and only saw 2 customers who had this problem, but I am sure there are several more with this problem. Actually I would like to know if I can return this product for a refund or credit toward something else. I am training this puppy for my grandchildren and my daughter and I am taking him to Illinois in two weeks. At this point I will not be taking the pen, because it is not useful. If someone can contact me in reference to this, I would appreciate it. My number is 516-343-4600. If not I will be contacting the company.
Great pen!! July 22, 2008 Yorkie Lover 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being involved with dogs and dog shows for over 20 years, I must say that the design, ease of assembly, compactness, light weight all add up to big pluses from me. The design is great - takes 2 seconds to assemble and is sturdy. The height is perfect for my toy dogs. This is a product I can use at home, at the shows, in a hotel room or outdoors. I also love the fact that the unit can be made bigger by simply adding panels ~ I bought 2 off the bat and now have the choice of design. I am now looking at the bigger model - I think that will be my next purchase. Finally, an x-pen that makes sense!!
The 'bee's knees' for small puppy confinement September 9, 2008 C.S. ('Archer') Marks ('Alterra, the World that Is') 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this pen for my long-haired Chihuahua puppy, and am I glad I did! It is reasonably priced, easy to assemble (took maybe 45 seconds to set up) and works very well. It is neither unattractive nor expensive...well worth the money. 'Gizmo' loves it. I find the door to be somewhat superfluous as it is just easier to pick the puppy up and lift him over, but I can see where it might come in handy. This pen is an excellent substitute for a crate, and it is also wonderful for placing outside (under supervision, of course). I have not as yet taken advantage of the expandability option, but I might! More versatile, less confining, and more attractive than a crate...but still a proper form of containment, this pen has everything for the small breed puppy owner!
