5 out of 5 stars Best Catbox I Have Ever Owned   October 14, 2007

I have 3 adult cats. I purchased a Littermaid hoping to aid in the chore of keeping their toilet clean. The Littermaid was a complete waste of my $115. Its rake was constantly getting clogged or stuck.

I was considering the VERY EXPENSIVE Litter-Robot. In reading pet blogs and miscellaneous reviews trying to decide whether to cough up the cash, I came across a couple of recommendations for the Omega Paw Litterbox. It sounded like both the Omega and Robot worked on a similar roll-over principal, with the Robot being automated and the Omega being manual. I decided I would spend approximately $35 for the Omega and try it out before shelling out $300 for the Litter-Robot. I have been so happy with the Omega that I have decided not to buy the Robot at this time.

As for tips for Omega Paw users:

1. It has been my experience that the process works best and wastes almost no litter if I have the litter filled to the proper level (about 3" in the box), and if I roll the box over **slowly**. If I roll it too fast, some clumps escape the grid and I also find more wasted clean litter in the drawer.

In addition I followed other reviewers' advice:

2. Mark the fill line inside the box with a marker so I can be sure I am keeping the box adequately filled.

3. Give the bottom of the box a good whack or two when it is inverted to release any clumps sticking to the bottom of the box.

4. Use duct tape or wide masking tape to seal the edge where the top and bottom meet. I would frequently accidentally release the latches when tilting the box. The tape prevents that problem and also prevents small litter particles from escaping.

This is a short demonstration video of how to use the Omega Paw Roll'n Clean Litter Box. It is a very easy to use litter box. I have found that I've used less litter with this box and there is less odor. It is a very economical litter box and I don't dread cleaning it as much as I have in the past with other boxes. You have to use the clumping litter. I would recommend getting the large box as the regular size is very small and would only accomodate a kitten or very small cat. I definitely recommend this litter box!

P.S. After rolling the box to the right and then back to the stationary position like I demonstrated, you will also very slightly roll it to the left to allow the clean litter back into the box. You will find the process is quite simple.

This is the greatest litter box I've ever seen. I've been scooping litter for over 20 years, and this is so easy and clean. You will have absolutely no problem if you just follow the simple instructions. I have 2 cats and purchased the large size box. Plenty of room, hassle free scooping. So much better than a motorized litter box.

I had to say how much I really enjoy this item. I won't go into detail as to how it works because several people have done that already. I was really impressed at the imagination of whoever invented this product. It really is great.
I have two Sphynx cats that will do their business wherever I spread cat litter so for them to try it out only took seconds after setting it up. In fact, my girl Isis practically shoved my hands out of the way as she darted for the opening to sniff and explore. In about a minute she made her deposit.
By looking at it in the store I couldn't understand how it worked. Because I purchased a display model already assembled and it had one decal on the top with directions saying "tilt to side slowly, remove drawer and empty waste." So like a kid with a toy I had to do this while watching what happened inside. I'm on my hands and knees of course. Oh the joys of an adult single male's life in his 30's. So after I saw how it worked I was floored. Then to simply pull the drawer out and dump the contents out was a dream. Way too easy I thought.
I have to disagree with the person's recommendation for using the Clever Cat. Simply because with that item you still have to dig in there and scoop. I don't want to use cat liners as I try to be ecologically sensitive to how much plastic we needlessly use and take for granted. I use SWHEAT SCOOP because it is biodegradeable. I just keep filling the Omega with freshlitter as I toss away clumps. I've only had it about a week but I don't mind taking it apart once a month to clean with soap and water. Because thus far I've just kept filling it with fresh litter and there is no problem. Sometimes clumps stick to the bottom or sides. I tap the plastic and they usually fall off and roll into the drawer for expedient, easy release.
I would ask the makers for one improvement to this great product. When the litter is in place and all is ready to go the space for a cat to do their business is only about 6 inches or so wide by a depth of about 12 inches. That's not a lot of square inch space for felines to do their business. I think everything is great but I recommend making this surface area larger because one day one of my cats defecated in front of the box because it needed changing. I roll it and clean it 4 or more times a day so it's not like I'm lazy. And I do have the larger size.
Thanks.

Great litterbox!

My 23 pound cat fits just fine in the large size litterbox. I highly recommend this one as it's simply the easiest one to clean out there, and I've tried them all.

We've conquered the problem of urine getting everywhere as this has a nice hood on it. The litter tracking, well that's a problem if you have a cat. Litter is going to get out of the box on their paws or just from digging. It's the price of having a cat.

With this litterbox I've gone down to having one litterbox for 3 cats. I roll it in the morning and the evening and dump the waste into a trashcan. Highly recommended!
