Fabulous - it is really working! March 29, 2007 S. Russell (NY, NY) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
We live in New York City and have two cats - younger cats, 18 months and about a year old - needless to say, it would be really nice if we could rid ourselves of the litter box forever. We had originally purchased a cat toilet-training system from another company - it was not nearly as good as this one, in fact, it was a total failure - flimsy plastic, and you couldn't punch out the insert gradually like you can this one. At this point we are almost there - we have punched out about half of the insert, and the cats are acually perching on the toilet seat and aiming for the hole - just incredible. We are very happy! The plastic is strong and easy to clean -
On Our Way To A Litter-Free Home! June 27, 2007 Laura Fortin (Holyoke, MA USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
We tried toilet training once before using the Kitty-Whiz brand training kit...it does not compare. It was very flimsy and did not hold litter. There were large spaces between the rings which were "held on by a thread" of plastic at a few points around each ring. One of my cats would not go on it. She just didn't feel secure. I could understand why since she was a large cat and weighed over 10 lbs. We did not succeed. CitiKitty is a GREAT product! It is very STURDY and HOLDS the litter wonderfully since there is a slight lip around each ring. This makes it very EASY to remove the tray, spilling virtually no litter. The flat design of the tray makes it very COMFORTABLE for the cats to use without sinking into the center. Each ring is a SOLID piece of plastic connected all the way around to the next with a perforation for easy cutting. With this product, you also have the CHOICE of advancing at a slower rate because you can trim each ring instead of removing the entire section at once. We are now on our way to a litter-free home! The cat who would not use the toilet before has passed :( and we got a new kitty. Both cats are approx. 1 1/2 yrs old and they are taking to it very well. The one with prior experience has absolutely no trouble and the new guy is really getting the hang of it. I would warn folks who are toilet training to put away any potted plants that the cat can fit itself into, as they may try using them as a toilet at first. Also, be sure to bring your cat to the toilet and place him/her on it. Stroke them and let them know that it is good for them to be up on the toilet. Poke at the litter and draw their attention to it. They simply need some guidance and reassurance that this IS their potty. Of course, a treat (food or affection) after use is always positively reinforcing! As far as cleaning goes, I just use a spoon to scoop out the droppings since it fits perfectly between rings. "Top-off" the litter and...voila!, you're done. GOOD LUCK!
It works July 3, 2007 Paula1440 (San Diego) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Just remember to give your cat plenty of time to adjust before you remove the next ring since you can't go back... the instructions are very helpful. The rings were difficult to "punch" out, I had to use a knife to cut through. It may seem like a lot of money for a plastic mold, but you will save a fortune in cat litter, well worth it. We are amazed that it worked, but it did!
Not good for all cats February 25, 2007 J. Westrate (Michigan) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I tried the CitiKitty Cat Toilet Training Kit on my 2 cats. The young male cat (10 months old approx. 10 lbs) did great. He caught on to the concept immediately. However, my 4 yr. old female cat (16 lbs) just did not understand. She used it for maybe the first week, and then decided she no longer liked her new litter box. We have now gone back to a standard litter box with a litter locker. I was really hoping that this would work, but obviously it's not for every cat...
Now, it is up to my cat! March 27, 2007 Julie A Watkins (St. Joseph, MN USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Sturdy plastic handles my 12 lb. cat easily. Not for someone who isn't ready to do the training steps. I suggest a container of those ready-to-use disinfecting wipes. Not all cats like change. Plus, you will have to share the bathroom with the cat, move the CityKitty every time YOU need to use the toilet; clean up "misses" that catch the seat; and, keep the seat down and lid up. The rest of my comments are about the realities of training my cat. While we started in March, it is now 5 months later. We STILL have 2 rings left. Because it isn't very deep, she won't pee and poop in it unless it is cleaned in between. Not sure when/if she'll start aiming for the hole. The cat is limited to one level of the house because she started to look for other items to pee on in the laundry/storage room. I addition, she is restricted to the bathroom overnight. We are working hard to make this work and not punish her. She was a lot happier with the deep litter box. We started by putting her self scooping litter box on a platform next to toilet. Then, we moved her litter to the CityKitty. As the first week progressed, (no holes punched) we transitioned to the flushable litter. When we opened the first hole, she panicked and stopped going altogether. We ended up using duct tape to reduce the hole to only an inch. Since, we only remove small sections. The little swiffer vac is getting a lot of use. However, anyone with a litter box already has to deal with tracked litter. I keep reminding myself it will be worth it in the end.
