The solution to your canine containment blues! June 14, 2006 Jeep Girl 25 out of 28 found this review helpful
We have four labs and this fence works fantastic for large dogs and containing them in your yard with minimal install. Most home owners could easily install this unit within an hour, unlike chain link, one must have a post hole digger, bags of concrete mix, a winch to tighten the wire fabric to the poles...and many hours...and much more money to invest! What a hassle! This is a much more affordable fencing option if you don't have the money for costly chain link or don't like the obstructed look of posts and wire fabric. I would agree that it's not the solution for all breeds of dogs, we found that it didn't keep our stubborn natured bull dog from charging the electronic static/zap because he knew that the faster he charged the line, the quicker he'd be on the other side. This products work well on most dog personalities and breeds of dog, although, if you have a very stubborn dog, alpha dog, or aggressive mix, it may not be your answer. If you have a dog that likes to wander, or need that extra safeguard, this is the perfect fence for you! In many cases, once the dog is walked around the perimeter of the flags included with the set, marking the barrier he/she is allowed to roam, within a few times of challenging the collar and invisible line, the dog won't even try to go beyond it. So in way, the dog is training itself to stay within a certain distance of home. This is also a great product to travel with, camping, grill outs, visiting family or friends, it's a very versatile product.
Petsafe Wireless Fence for 2 Dogs September 2, 2006 Zmartha (United States) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
It does keep the dogs off the highway or running to the neighbors. 3 critical comments: The batteries only last maybe 2 months and are about $6 each, so with 2 dogs that averages a battery a month $6x12=$72 a year in batteries. These dog stay well within the area, so aren't wearing the batteries out by setting them off often. Wish they were re-chargeable. Another comment is that one dog has chewed a little on the other dog's receiver, and that could be expensive. PetSafe suggests buying a $5 + shipping PVC cover for to protect the receiver. And, I wish there was a way to know when the battery is running down. We can only tell when one of the dogs is out of the area.
Great Product August 11, 2006 MO (Glastonbury, CT USA) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
We tried the "wired" invisible fence at our previous home, but the dog discovered that if she ran fast enough, she could escape. Amazingly, this product works for her. It was much, much easier and less expensive to install, and she learned very quickly that she could not leave the yard. This product also eliminates problems that the "wired" invisible fence can have when erosion or children or animals digging expose the wires.
My dog can play outside! February 1, 2007 R. Hubbard (Drums, PA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
We do not have a fence, so the PetSafe wireless fence unit has significantly improved the quality of life for the dog and us. We adjusted the base unit to allow the forest creatures to escape. We weren't able to put the invisible fence where we had planned because the chain-link enclosure (the dog's "sand box") beside our driveway interfered with the signal. The collar uses up the specialized batteries quickly, so keep a supply on hand. Check the collar daily before using. When the battery is replaced, the collar must be reset to the appropriate shock level. We left the boundary flags up for 10 days although the dog figured it out the first day. My dog has only experienced one shock (at a setting of four) on the first day; since then, the beep is enough to keep him within the boundaries. PetSafe retains control over the selling price of its products, so there are no bargain basement prices by any vendor.
Worth Every Penny October 3, 2006 J. McCarthy (North Yarmouth, ME United States) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I did a lot of research on this product after it was recommended to me. We are just thrilled with how easy it was. I have two young terriers who would bolt out of the yard to happily chase squirrels, neighbors etc. We have a large lot and part of it is wooded. We didn't want to have to bury a wire. We also didn't want to worry about what door the dogs were let out. In two days, the dogs understood the fencing. I tried the shock on myself at the lowest setting to be sure that I would not be hurting my dogs, and it was not painful...just an annoying feeling. So far, my only complaint is that occasionally, when the collars are off of the dogs and hanging in the house, they will beep on their own. This scares the dogs, understandably! I highly recommend this containment system. It has given my dogs freedom to run and play. It's a really great product.
