5 out of 5 stars Good stuff!   December 23, 2007

Got QuickBooks because my accountant preferred it. We are starting a new business. I got someone to tutor me for an hour or two and now I'm a whiz. It really does so much 'automatically' and my accountant can correct anything I screw up. Without it I would have had to dump everything on my accountant. Hate to think what that would cost.

1 out of 5 stars Problematic , SLOW and not very well backward compatible   March 11, 2008
Tech Support

QuickBooks Pro 2008 is of course a re-hash of previous versions with some tweaks to the user interface with little improvement.
The program generates endless errors in the Windows XP event log that according to Intuit should not be there but should be in the Intuit log. Of course there is no fix for this ... , so expect your event log to fill up with QB errors quickly -- - I guess that's what "Quick" about the product.
Forget support, as always the info regarding issues is next to impossible to find in the Intuit knowledge base and real person to person support costs hard cash. The best support I found was in the users forum, but not well organized and most questions submitted were never responded to by Intuit staff. The Intuit knowledge base is more of a perpetual loop from not applicable to not applicable information. Sort of Microsoft like.
Overall , the product is quite slow on an AMD Athlon XP 64 X2 4800 system with gigs of memory. Standard QuickBooks functions are counter intuitive and require considerable digging around the nebulous interface to accomplish simple tasks.
Be careful if you want to use accountants copy for your accountant. He/she must have the "Premier" edition 2008. Additionally accountant copies from or to previous editions is only a wish. Read all of the hard to extremely hard to find info about what you can do with the product, Tax Table service and migrating data. Another burn from Intuit is that if you have corrupted data be ready to shell out $750 if you want your database back in a reasonable amount of time. If you can wait a few weeks then it will only cost you $250. Intuit has made sure you cannot repair your own data when you have corruption in the database beyond what QuickBooks can repair on your workstation with the "Rebuild" and "Verify" data functions. You can not extract the data tables and indexes to start a new
company file and rebuild your database. The QuickBooks database is highly is prone to errors - be warned.
The cost of the product is quite high considering the product has had little incremental improvement year to year.
These issues with the product are of course my fault and your fault for continuing to use a mid-90's product re-hashed with little improvement and pay good money for it. At best, QuickBooks Pro 2008 or any of the many preceding incarnations are worth perhaps 20 cents on the dollar for what we pay. We should stop using the product.

5 out of 5 stars Beta tester's thoughts on Quickbooks Pro 2008   October 23, 2007

QB Pro 2008 installed quick and easy. It has video tutorials and step-by-step instructions. I also found this version to run faster than previous versions. After trying other brands I plan to stay with Quickbooks software. It has been a great choice for our business.

3 out of 5 stars Quickbooks online banking took a little while to work   January 9, 2008

I spent all day on the phone with BoA and Quickbooks trying to get the Quickbooks online banking features to link with BoA. The situation was resolved when I learned that you have to wait 24 hrs after BoA makes a change or enables a feature.

Quickbooks 2008 Pro is a great product for the money. The range of features is amazing. It does seem to be a little buggy, so support is a must. Since Intuit only provides 30 days of free callback support, I strongly recommend purchasing the annual paid support plan if your business depends on it.

3 out of 5 stars Less than expected, More of the same   March 2, 2008

I have always been a fan of QuickBooks and find the software to be a necessity for anyone with a business. However, my upgrade to Quickbooks 2008 Pro was very disappointing. QBP 2008 is VERY slow to load and even slower to save a file. Plus the added benefits of QBP 2008 are not worth the price or the hassle of the upgrade. Here's a tip for you, save your money and don't upgrade unless they force you to abandon a perfectly good version of Quickbooks due to lack of support anymore.

We'll be adding even more exciting features to assist you in the coming year.
