Not worth it. August 18, 2006 Tsaxman 54 out of 59 found this review helpful
Once again, Intuit is asking Mac users to pay MORE for less. Quicken 2007 has fewer features than the Windows version, a much less sophistacted interface, gives the user far less information. All this for a much higher price tag. Other software companies give you comparable versions at the same price. Hopefully somebody will develop competitive financial software that will give Intuit a run for its $$$.
Expensive forced upgrades February 4, 2007 Mark Robison (Reno) 48 out of 53 found this review helpful
I've been using Quicken 2004 since I got my Mac laptop three years ago. It's not great but what other choice do we have? I've been intentionally not upgrading based on all of the negative reviews since what I've got does what I need it to do and I'm used to its problems by now. Today I got a prompt when I launched Quicken saying that I will no longer be able to download my transactions from banks, credit card companies, etc. Intuit will not support it or allow it -- unless I "upgrade" to Quicken 2007 for the low low price of 50 frickin' dollars! That's an upgrade price? (All "online services" for Quicken 2004 will be discontinued starting April 1, 2007, including getting stock quotes and portfolio tracking.) Oh how I wish there were a hungry young software firm that made a basic, home financial program for the Mac that would download transactions. Anybody know of any? As soon as one comes out, I'm switching. And, Intuit, if you're listening, I'm never buying TurboTax again. Your competitors are getting my money for the bad-faith way you treat your customers. Forcing your product to be basically unusable after 3 years is unconscionable.
Works just fine, no problems February 11, 2007 Ted K. (Fairview Heights IL) 39 out of 43 found this review helpful
I have been a Mac user for 20 years, but I also have used Windows, and I have used both Mac and Windows versions of Quicken. Over time, I have stayed with the Mac version because, frankly, I like it better. It doesn't have all the extras of the Windows version, but I consider that a plus. It has a straightforward interface, downloads work fine and easier than the Windows version, and it's easier to work with accounts and transactions. I had been using Quicken 2005 for the Mac. Based on other reviews, I hesitated to upgrade. I decided to wait until Release 2. The installation and conversion worked fine. Everything transferred over without a hitch (I have six-plus years of transactions in 40-50 accounts, including some now closed). Since the upgrade, everything is running just fine. I upgraded primarily for two new features -- the ability to do estimated taxes using the current tax year's numbers, and the ability to back up automatically to my .mac account. I had been backing up by saving a copy and then manually copying it to my .mac folder. The new backup is fast and easy, much faster than the old manual version. Also, making a local backup seems much faster than before. In short, everything is working just fine. If you install the software, then install Release 2, then open your data file, you should have the same experience as I did, unless perhaps there is some pre-existing corruption in your old data. My data file is 7.7 MB, and it's working flawlessly.
I will never buy another intuit project January 17, 2007 L. E. Fox (LA, CA) 36 out of 37 found this review helpful
I've just switched to the Mac and was lured with Intuit's false representations about how simple this would be. The program is miserable. The "customer service" that allegedly helps users switch from one platform to another is positively sadistic -- it took me countless hours on the phone (often repeating the same information to a third or fourth allegedly helpful person) and over a month to get data that Intuit said would work on the Mac. I've now spent at least three full days trying to turn the data into something really usable -- and realizing that the Mac program lacks many of the relatively simple features that I'd come to expect from Quicken. This is quite a way to lose customers.
Widget Good...The Rest Bad August 17, 2006 R. Gilliam (Honolulu, HI USA) 33 out of 39 found this review helpful
Quickbooks Windows users have been able to print deposit slips for the LONGEST time, but yet again this version does not allow for printable deposit slips. This may seem trite, but for a Mac business owner, printable deposit slips would make my life a lot easier. The widget seems like a nice addition, but not for $50+ dollars. I think the only way I would purchase this item was if Citibank finally gave in and supported the Mac version.
