Even worse than 2007 November 11, 2007 B. Pryor 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
For some reason, I had no problems with Quicken 2006. I upgraded to Quicken 2007 and have problems with multiple transactions that I can't "match", basic arithmetic errors (can't calculate asset % in my 401k), and random date changes that cause problems. I hoped that 2008 would be a good upgrade to fix the problems. I was wrong. All the old problems are there, and downloads from my financial institutions worked even less than before. As a result, I took advantage of the 60 day money back guarantee and got my money back. It's a shame that this software has degraded this far. I know one thing: I'll be trying out Money 2008. :)
Online Banking vs Quicken and banking fees November 19, 2007 R. Johnson (Houston, TX USA) 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is more a comment about Quicken online services than that to review this version of Quicken. I "Love" Quicken overall features and capabilities. I have been using it as long as I can remember. It was a DOS program when I started. :) Anyway, I'm concerned that the feature that allows Quicken to download transactions posted to checking, credit card and other accounts is being undermined by "some" banks. They banks are adding on a fee for this capability. I've inquired with a couple of them and they say that it adds to their costs to provide this service and that using the online banking at their website is free. I view it as another means of taking more of my hard earned money (nickel and dimeing) to enhance their bottom line. I hope this is not a trend that spreads. Fow now, I can live without the few banks that are charging fees for this.
New Features Help Me Organize December 12, 2007 Geekasaurus (Seattle, WA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have used Quicken since 1995 or so and have had various versions throughout the years, the last being 2006. I have found this version the easiest to use as far as importing transactions from my bank. I did find it difficult and quirky with my credit card accounts however. My favorite feature is the ability to add attachments via scanner, file or clipboard. I use all three depending on what kind of documentation I have. I have Adobe Acrobat and can print order confirmations etc. to a .pdf file and attach it to the transaction. This has really helped me with so much keeping all of the documentation from my online transactions. For paper management, I can scan and attach receipts, paycheck stubs, etc. and have them easily found within Quicken. I was going to buy the Quicken Home Inventory program to integrate all of this information, but I found out that the Home Inventory does not support .pdf files which is just obnoxious. From reviews that I have read about Intuit's newest software, it seems like the company is going downhill. I personally have not had any problems with this version of Quicken but then again, I have fairly simple transactions.
"Upgrading" from 2005 not much of an upgrade February 3, 2008 Liz J (Newton, MA USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a comparison of Quicken Premier 2005 vs. the home portion only of Quicken Home and Business 2008. I bought this product because I had been using Quicken 2005 and Intuit will "no longer be supporting" bank connectivity for that version later this spring. Overall, I have been very disappointed with the lack of difference between the two versions. New features I have found useful: 1) a _slightly_ better way to budget 2) a way to label an account a 529 I expected that the financial overview page would be improved, however,it seems about the same to me. In summary, it was definitely not worth the money to upgrade, except that by discontinuing the bank connectivity (the most important feature, I feel) we are forced to purchase the new version. Saying that, I have been using Quicken for almost a decade now. I love the product and am willing to shell out the extra cash, even though it irks me, in order to continue using it. Quicken is essential to my personal financial life and has been for many years. Liz http://www.DinnerBeat.com
Been using Quicken for 10 years September 26, 2007 M. Duffy (Garden Grove, Ca United States) 8 out of 28 found this review helpful
This is the first time I've ever responded and posted a review on Amazon. I use the Home and Business version and never in the over ten years I've been using Quicken including my current version of 2006. It's always been right to the penny with the balance in the bank account. As far as the file corruption, to prevent this, a smart user should always backup his files on a regular basis. Quicken always prompts me on a regular basis to backup my files. I generally upgrade my version about every two years, so I have 2008 in my wishlist to purchase in the very near future. So, I can not agree with anything the previous viewer had to say about Quicken.
