Oops New Jersey February 28, 2008 Tina Hart (Erial, NJ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The federal tax product worked flawlessly. The interview system is easy to use and I've already got my refund. The state product was not so good. Some of the questions in the interview were confusing. I didn't know how to answer them and the "help" section was no help at all. The program incorrectly calculated that I was owed a refund larger than what I had paid in taxes. Still, I've used Turbo Tax before in PA and it worked great. So buy it, but if you live in NJ be careful!
I'm a first time user. It's easy and their support team is good. February 29, 2008 faraway (Central Asia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My tax picture is more complex this year. I e-mailed my friends for help; maybe their accountant would answer my questions for an hour's fee. No accountant wants the liability in exchange for an hour's fee. One friend recommended TurboTax. I fiddled with their on-line version and didn't like the difficulty in printing my worksheets. I bought the boxed version - cheapest from Amazon - and I'm still working on it. However, the telephone support for my rather arcane questions was unbeatable. It's exceptionally user friendly and very well referenced - I can find what I want with one or two clicks. I think it's very good.
Good Tax Preparation Program March 1, 2008 Joseph N. Scialabba 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Product was relatively easy to use and very accurate. Could have had better discriptions of topics, termanology, guidance. Needs to be a little easier to navigate backwards, forwards, and to specific topics or areas for revisiting. Sometimes you need to jump around if you forget something. The program should have a little better way of doing this.
No help on excess contributions March 1, 2008 Gary S. (Ellicott City,MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I knew that I had excess contributions to my IRA, and bought Turbo Tax to help me with filling out the forms properly. When it properly calculated that I had $1000 in excess contributions, it did not ask me if I wanted to withdraw that excess before the deadline. Instead, it just gave me a 10% penalty. Since I planned to withdraw the excess, the penalty doesn't apply. The only way I found around this was to say I only contributed $3000 versus $4000, which may be what Turbo Tax intended. Also, it's providing no help in how to handle the earnings that I have to withdraw. It's assuming that I have a 1099-R, but I won't have that for a while, because I can't withdraw the excess contributions until after 15 April. But I need to estimate my earnings when I request an extension and estimate my taxes. In short, I had to do too much of the thinking and analysis and reading of IRS publications.
great product March 3, 2008 Kenneth Harrison (Providence, RI USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my second time using TurboTax and found it even better than last year. It imported all necessary information from last year, then asked if I wanted to import information from my Quicken Home & Business file. I said yes, looked over the imported information and was very pleased. My taxes took no time to prepare. Thankfully I set up my Quicken to import into the proper fields. That is key.
