Great software, horrible fees March 4, 2008 Zachary Feuerborn (Boise, ID USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been using Turbo Tax for almost 10 years now and have never felt the need to look elsewhere. Intuit's software usually works well, and is fairly easy to use (though it isn't an intuitive as it once was). I bought the Home & Business edition this year because I worked part of the year as a contractor, and also dabbled in the stock market a little, so I needed a more powerful version. I decided to do my girlfriend's taxes first, and just finished them up after only 45 minutes (Nothing more and a 1040 for her). Nice! But then I chose E-file and boy was I shocked when I finished entering in all her account information. It was going to cost over $65 to E-file her taxes through Intuit!!! After just paying $90 for the software a local store, I just couldn't believe it! Fortunately, they DO let you print out your return, so we'll be using a FREE E-File option from the IRS this year. After doing my taxes this year I am going to be seriously reconsidering my loyalty to Intuit.
first time use a breeze March 4, 2008 Hard-at-Work (rural New Mexico) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first time I have tried any product of this type, but decided to give it a try after reading reviews of others. I have a small home based business, so usually the return is quite complex. I am not done with the '07 return as yet, but am very pleased at how easy it is to use, and am breezing through it without "gnashing of teeth"----how great is that?
Mac User thoroughly disgusted with this product March 7, 2008 Helen C. Donnelly (Columbus, MI USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was forced to Turbo Tax Home-Business when Tax Cut forgot Mac users a couple of years ago. This year I bought the product for $74. with the shipping, while I was still operating OS X 10.3.9. Well, $129. later I now have OS x 10.4.11. Installed the Turbo Tax CD and guess what, even though my internet connection is merrily running away at the top of my screen, Turbo Tax says I am not connected. Turbo Tax support via any method is abysmal. No help there. Talked to Mac, talked to my ISP and the problem rests squarely with the Turbo Tax software. I am not the only one who has incurred this problem. Take a look on the web and others have had the identical problem. I have returned the product to Amazon and will take whatever allowance it is willing to give. Meanwhile Intuit has permanently lost a customer and I am back in Tax Cut's ball park.
Taking the Customer for Granted March 12, 2008 Bernard Chachula (Beavercreek, OH USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been a user of TurboTax for more years than I can remember. My impression is that the TurboTax people have run out of fresh ideas. The cost of the product keeps going up and now e-filing isn't included. There are a lot of supposed improvements, but these appear to me to be more "eye-candy" rather than real improvements. And the cost of this stuff only supports raising prices. I can't say the competitors have better products. In fact, I'll probably continue to use the TurboTax system because changing is more difficult than just putting up with the subtle lack of meaningful context-specific assistance while being inundated by loads of marginally relevant "help". TurboTax management - return to an efficient product at a reasonable price. Exactly what is so expensive about providing e-filing that you should now be charging so much for the extra service? Is this your cash cow, like printer ink is to the makers of inkjet printers? I think so.
Never again March 24, 2008 Nancy E. Turner (Tucson, AZ USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
First of all if you have either Windows (insert expletive here) Vista, or worse, Vista combined with Symantec/Norton Security, TurboTax WILL NOT RUN ON YOUR COMPUTER. After hours upon hours of searching their website for "help" which isn't helpful, talking with non-English-speaking technicians who ask the same question repeatedly, (no doubt sincere in their attempts to help however THEY DON't SPEAK ENGLISH)who will tell you everything but that YOU CAN'T RUN TURBOTAX on VISTA, I have given up. The thing won't load downloads, won't access the "help" buttons, won't perform any necessary calculations - in fact, you are required to keep complex numerical formulas written down so that you can "multiply the indexed number from the last page for each quarter by 92.35%" and fill in blanks. I miss the old days when the program actually filled out the forms FOR YOU. I paid a chunk of money for this and I'm going to have to pay more to GET A DIFFERENT PROGRAM. I'd advise you to do the same and save yourself the headaches. TurboTax owes me $25 in aspirin alone.
