Not for anyone out of high school! February 3, 2006 Kat Smiles (or-eee-gone) 13 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was thoroughly disappointed. The first few words I looked up in the thesaurus were not listed -- words like upholstery! When I went online to see what I might be able to glean from their online site, first Fogware had not sent me a coupon, then I had to deal with bad customer service (I am not doing business with any companies anymore that give bad support) then after I finally got the coupon code they had left out of my box, the online info is exactly what we have in the cd -- so save your money and do not subscribe to their extended services site unless you need a spanish online dictionary also! VERY BAD! I am now going to go buy Roget's and check it out!
Great dictionary January 8, 2006 Petro von Richter (Hamburger, Germany) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Any e-dictionary will give you definitions of course, but what I especially like about this one is that it is lightning fast. Also, when a definition contains an illustration it's indicated by an icon which you double click to view (and which comes up instanteously in a seperate window). This dictionary also allows you to search a word by different criteria other than for just its definitions: rhymes with, Homophones are, Date of, Author quoted, Definition contains...etc, etc. One note on installation: make sure you temporarily disable active virus software (and it wouldn't hurt to do the same for those other programs on the right side of the task bar).

This is a very fine bilingual encyclopedia of the Spanish and English languages. It installs within seconds and has extremely complex search capabilities in either language. Whatever Amazon is charging for it - multiply by five and you will have a glimpse of the value of this CD-ROM. Leave it in RAM. Read a Spanish language newspaper over the net. Watch Univision on cable TV. Pick words off the radio. If you are using this dictionary to learn Spanish, you will ALSO have to have a verb book - it doesn't teach grammar, but it DOES teach modismos (idiomatic expressions). It DOES know a noun from a verb from an adverb from an adjective. This is an indispensable tool. Load it onto your laptop and take it to Mexico City or Miami or Venezuela. Share with the people you meet there.
great for kids January 2, 2004 chris (Tampa, FL United States) 10 out of 17 found this review helpful
The Amazon Features: recommended this dictionary for age 9 to adult and this should have been a big clue. Generally 9 year olds and adults aren't looking for the same things in a product of this type. This is a cute program but all of it is freely available on the Web.My two biggest disappointments were the brief simplistic definitions and that it lacks cross-referencing or hyper-linking within a definition, -- yes, you can easily jump to new definitions from words within a given definition, but, for me, this lacks the learning that comes with hyper-linking. My last comment is that as of January 04, the reviews listed under this Medical Dictionary are reviews for other Merriam-Webster products, but not for the Medical Dictionary. Read closely and notice the reference to a thesaurus that the Medical Dictionary does not have.
Good basic reference, lousy interface. June 17, 2005 uilleann13 (Discorporating) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
The definitions and thesaurus cross referencing are very good. The user interface is quite honestly shameful. Software companies got away with this years ago, but there are now accepted standards for windows user interfaces (e.g keyboard short cuts are missing). Integration with Word 2003 is weak. Numerous bugs and exceptions and very slow.
