a software note December 27, 2007 bukhtan (Chicago, Illinois, USA) 15 out of 21 found this review helpful
This product is sold as licensed software. Users will NOT be able to load it onto more than one computer. This aspect of the product is not clear from the blurbing on the Rosetta Stone website. It is a "single-user" product. Don't think that you can share this with friends, or that it is appropriate for a lending collection.
Works Fine With Windows Vista November 28, 2007 Larry Flowers (Atlanta GA) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Some recent reviewers have claimed that Rosetta Stone software is NOT compatible with Vista. It is true that you can't just put the CD in and install the software.. Here are the instructions for Installing Rosetta Stone on a Vista equipped PC...plainly posted on the Rosetta Stone Support Site.. 1. Insert the Application CD 2. When the "Autoplay" window opens, close it by clicking the red "X" in the upper right corner 3. Click your Start Menu then click Computer 4. In the window that appears, right-click the CD-ROM drive labeled "RS_App" 5. In the menu that appears, click "Explore" to browse the contents of the Rosetta Stone Application CD 6. In the Explore window, right-click on "Setup" (or "Setup.exe") 7. In the menu that appears, click "Copy" 8. Go to your desktop and right-click on any empty place 9. In the menu that appears, click "Paste" to copy "Setup" from the Application CD to your desktop 10. After "Setup" is copied to the desktop, right-click on the icon for it 11. In the menu that appears, click "Properties" 12. In the Properties window, go to the Compatibility tab Select the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" 13. In the drop-down box, choose "Windows XP Service Pack 2" (may already be showing) 14. Click "OK" to save the changes and close the Properties window 15. On your desktop, double-click "Setup" to start the installation process 16. Click "Allow" to continue the installation 17. On the screen where you see the words, "The fastest way to learn a language," Click "OK" to install with instructions in English 18. Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation. 19. Once the installation is complete, insert the language disk and launch the program to begin your study. 20. If you are having trouble starting Rosetta Stone, you may also need to change the compatibility mode of the program to "Windows XP"
V3 Spanish Latin America running Vista February 17, 2008 Ronald R. Riesbeck (Lake Villa, Il. United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Rosetta Stone V3 Spanish (Latin America) Level 1&2 Personal Edition (Win/Mac) I have completed CD 1 and have waited until now to comment. I have version 3 Spanish 1 Latin American on a Toshiba laptop with Vista home basic. It runs perfect. I had problems with the mic being way too loud. If you run into a problem, go to their (rosetta) web site support. Its well done. I found an answer and its a microphone setting in Vista that allowed adjustments for mic input. The program is well thought out. If you can't pronounce a word, it allows you to go into a speech analyzer. You see and hear your recorded word and the native speakers voice. If you still can't get it then PASS it up. You will have more opportunities to work on it during the course. Don't kill yourself. It took me 2 months to finish the first CD. I plan to go over it again before I go onto the 2 CD. I don't think you'll get by without a translator. I find that I am not 100% sure what they are trying to show me, so I look up the word to be sure. It would be real nice if you could right click on a work and see a translation and conjunctions, if selected. Bottom line is that I enjoyed the first CD and can make my point when getting around in a Spanish speaking environment. You need to start somewhere and this is it. It's a start in the right direction.
Vista/Rosetta Stone March 23, 2008 Susan L. Fringeli 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I agree completely with Andrew Mullen. If you're using Windows Vista DO NOT buy Rosetta Stone. Larry Flowers explained in a previous post a very lengthy way to correct the errors. 1. If you're paying over $300.00 for a program it should install seamlessly since Rosetta Stone claims it's Vista compatible. 2. I installed all the updates as Larry explained and contacted Rosetta Stone Tech support over six times. They even sent me TWO new CD'S.The program would still not install. I wonder when Rosetta Stone will wise up and update their program. I'm certain all new computers will come pre-installed with Vista.
beware of 1GHZ speed requirement March 27, 2008 marykb (texas) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Although this requirement is not listed on the box, your computer needs to have at least 1 GHZ speed in order for the oral components to work properly. Otherwise, you will have major glitzes in these lessons and will finally, in frustration, skip them altogether. And, since I did not check this out until after the 30-day period with Amazon, I contacted Rosetta Stone directly to ask for a refund as they are the ones who left this critical requirement off the front of the box. Rosetta Stone refused to give me a refund, but simply suggested that I purchase a newer computer.
