Kaspersky vs. norton May 28, 2007 Jeffrey I. Weinstein (la,ca) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
after five years of struggling with norton slowing down my computer, i needed a change. with my annual norton subscription expiring, i spent about an hour looking at reviews of other products. while i had never heard of Kaspersky, after reading the reviews and specs, i decided i had nothing to lose. what an improvement! if your system response is slow because of norton, i would recommend switching to Kaspersky, you will really see the difference.
This is truly the best Internet Security Software December 4, 2006 Rene Schmitt (glendale, AZ United States) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
After already being fed up with Nortons incompetence, their 2007 edition was the final blow to their self destruction. I had to dump Norton because of so many problems which would take several pages to describe. I investigated the various benchmarks and reviews and decided on Kaspersky. I am absolutely impressed by this software. It was written by INTELLIGENT !!! people, & not by some nerds that are to stupid to kick over a bucket of water. The startup is faster. The updates are very fast. Their scanning for viruses will detect if the systems is busy and will pause the scanning until it is less busy. Meaning, that when you are using your machine, YOU, not the Internet Security has the highest priority. The way they handle the spam and popup is again very smartly written. This software was written by truly professionals with a high IQ. They thought about everything. I am a senior software engineer and I hate stupid software such as Nortons, with totally unnecessary messages which only serves to irritate you and slow you down. Kaspersky, congratulations for a job well done. This is the best on the market !!
One of the best antivirus software on the market January 15, 2007 Matthew Fong 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
I got 4 computers in my family. I've been using both Kaspersky and Symantec antivirus softwares in the last couple years. From my experiences, Kaspersky can protect all my computers from global virus outbreak because its core scan engine able to detect any unusual activities. Update pattern files is important for any kind of antivirus softwares for sure. However, I found that Symantec is much more rely on the pattern files and the pattern files usually release after the outbreak. That means computers still able to get infected. That was an unpleasant experience. I got a P3 machine with 384MB memory. Two Athlon XP machine with 1GB memory and a Core 2 Duo Notebook in my family. If you are a typical user like my family members, you can set the security level to "Low". The resources and memory is consumed much less than the other 2 setting. With the "Low" security setting, even the P3 machine can perform virus scan and execute another task smoothly. Although "Recommend" and "High" will be more secure and eat much more resource, "Low" is strong enough for typical usage. btw... Always download and install the latest version KAV software from their site. It's free to download anyway. Install usually trouble free, however, if you have any other antivirus software, they might crash. Especially many antivirus software is now bundle with other software. Such as Zonealarm Pro, Systemwork... etc <==PLEASE AWARE THIS ISSUE when you try to install different software in your computer.
Just may have obliterated my system March 16, 2007 Louis R. Primus (Hatboro, PA United States) 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Feeling more than a bit fleeced by McAfee's overpriced "subscription" renewal every year, I decided to give Kaspersky a try. Installation went smoothly and everything seemed fine for 2 or 3 weeks. Then one day my computer would not boot---just stalled on a blank screen right after the Windows XP splash screen. When trying to boot up in safe mode, a list of the drivers currently loading scrolled down the screen. It stopped at a file called kl1.sys and hung there forever. A little research at work showed that this was a Kaspersky file. It may be just a coincidence that my system suddenly went kaput shortly after installing the new antivirus program, but I doubt it. Attempts to use a recovery disk failed. A trip to the local computer shop revealed that the data on my hard drives (which were in the inscrutable RAID 0 format) could not be recovered (unless I wanted to ship them to a recovery shop, and nothing on them was worth that much). So they're going to reinstall windows, I'll have to do reinstall a shipload of software when I finally get my computer back, and, yes, I'll lose all the data that was on there. (Gee, good thing I backed up all the kids' photos---well, most of them. Thanks, Kaspersky!) Anyway, perhaps my attempts at recovering the OS caused the worst of this. Whatever the case, I believe the boot failure was caused by either the Kaspersky file being corrupted or a virus. Who knows. Kaspersky is to blame in both scenarios. I do know one thing: I am not going to tempt fate by loading this program on my computer again. And Kaspersky has yet to respond to my e-mail. I got an automated "we received your e-mail" response, but nothing more, even though they state that they usually respond within a day or two. That was over a week ago. If in fact their software is in no way responsible for my computer flaking out on me, then I still do not apologize for the one-star rating, given their horrible customer service. If you decide I'm insane or that this was just a fluke, at least do yourself a favor and make a decent boot disk for yourself before installing this product. That might mean the difference between losing data/spending $$$ and just being inconvenienced. And don't expect much assistance from Kaspersky should things go wrong.
Kaspersky can "get 'er done!" May 5, 2007 Frankland S. Strickland (Memphis, Tennessee) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Let me begin by saying that although I use my computer daily, I am by no means a "techie" or computer geek. I don't know all of the technical jargon that goes along with being an expert. That's okay though, I use my washing machine everyday but couldn't repair it if the timer went out. With that being said, Kaspersky's advertising line says it all: "Installs easily with a clear interface and automated functions making it the right choice for even the most inexperienced computer users." Well, that's me---the "inexperienced user" part, that is. In a nutshell, this product works!!!! There are umpteen-gazillion competitors out there (and of course I've not tried them all) that claim to do all sorts of magical things, but Kaspersky actually does what it says it will do. I have several "freeware" programs on my computer---most notably Ad-aware and Spybot--- that "find" all sorts of pesky things and claim to delete them, but these critters keep coming back. I even tried that new "Live One" (or whatever it's called) from Windows, but it totally failed to find and purge that horrific trojan that seems to be infecting practically everyone's computer recently---Winsoft. Have you too been infected with Winsoft? You know, the constant pop-ups "warning" you that your computer is infected with spyware and doing it under the pretense of being a legitimate Windows message? Well, nothing under the sun could get rid of it until Kaspersky. Now, I can go online without the constant barrage of pop-ups from Winsoft or System Doctor or a host of other nasty varmits. I noticed where one user experienced a total crash of his PC when trying to install Kaspersky. At first, I thought mine did the same thing too. What it turned out to be was my worthless Windows Live One trying to "protect" my computer from Kaspersky. I don't know enough of the "technicals" to explain this, but when installing Kaspersky it does prompt you to uninstall "incompatible" programs. In my case, the seldom used Trend PCillin program had to be removed before running Kaspersky. Ultimately, I uninstalled the Windows Live One program too and all has been well since! You may or may not like the audible "ping" sound that occurs whenever Kaspersky detects a problem, but the little "pig squeal" it gives when it deletes a potential threat will have you giggling and squealing with delight! Hands down, this Russian-made protection software is the best I've ever used. I like to imagine that I have an entire brigade of Don Cossacks hacking and slashing away at all of the nasty trojans trying to invade my PC.
