Can't Import from It's Deductible Online January 16, 2007 Alex (Framingham, MA United States) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with the software, with one exception... You can't import your Deduction information from It's Deductible Online. Last year the software suggested that we use the online version of It's Deductible giving the impression that we'd be able to import our information into the Desktop edition of TT. Unfortunately that is not the case. In a nutshell, if you have a lot of Deductions in It's Deductible Online, then you'll need to start your return using the online edition of TT (it's free till you're ready to file so you don't have to pay twice), import the deductions, then export your tax file to the desktop edition of TT. It's a real pain, and if you've already filled out your Taxes up to the point where you enter in your deductions, you'll have to start all over again. If it weren't for this major hassle, I would have rated this a 4 or a 5, but finding out about this problem more than half way through my taxes, and having to start all over again is a big zinger.
Crashing always December 21, 2006 Jihoon Yoon (San Jose, CA) 15 out of 26 found this review helpful
I have installed this product on my IBM ThinkPad notebook, and its operating system is Windows XP. Because I have used TurboTax last year, I have imported 2005 tax return file, and then started to enter 2006 data. A few steps of navigation always resulted in crash. It was not random. Same sequences of navigation always resulted in a popup window saying "TurboTax Engine has encountered a problem and needs to close...", and then it crashed with no chance of saving entered data. Reinstallation didn't help. I will return this one.
At my level of taxation its a great program... December 23, 2006 DooDude (Midwest, USA) 13 out of 32 found this review helpful
Ive used Turbo Tax for the 3 previous years & will use it this year as well. I dont have alot of deductions, or any children & Im single but I 'aint' the sharpest knife in the drawer & Im kinda math stupid. So in the past Ive always be a little apprehensive when I mail my returns. I also moved 3 years ago from a state with no state taxes to a state that does collect taxes. Alot of taxes! That along with the fact that Im making more money (curse this G.W.Bush economy!) & have a larger 401K, a substantial high interest savings account & a another investment on the side, I feel the need to get the most I can out of my taxes & reporting of same. My taxes are fairly straight forward ( I think!? ) & with some effort I could go back to doing them again. But I have made mistakes doing my taxes in the past & Turbo Tax ( so far ) has not. I feel confidant using Turbo Tax & that alone is worth the price of admission. As far as the e filing, I dont use it. Thankfully, Im in a position where I can wait for my check. If I got it right away it wouldnt make any difference in my quality of life so the expense is just a waste for me. Also, I didnt read it here but while at Staples last night I saw something about getting a free year of credit monitoring from Experian when you purchase the deluxe model. NOW, how much would you pay!? ;P
bad software December 29, 2006 G. tran (NM) 11 out of 36 found this review helpful
Every time I try this 2006 TurboTax software I get a new result for my tax return. I tried 5 times on this version using the same inputs + dozens other tests. Other people told me that they had the same problem all the times. I don't know if the MAKER of this knows about this. I gave this software 3 stars because I used TurboTax in 2004 & 2005 with the similar problem. I filed them anyway ... But not this year ... because I don't want to pay more taxes and still get some money back on the same tax returns (according to this 2006 software)
Sure beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick !!! January 4, 2007 Wavescapes (Portland, OR United States) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I've used this program on Mac for a few years now. I think its great, and the software has fetched me some good tax returns between being self-employed, a home owner, and regular employee. Not to mention all the donations I make for tax deductions! I've used Tax Cut in the past and it did a good job, but Turbo Tax seems to do a better job. Plus the interface and options seem to be a better bargain, not to mention just easier to use and understand. As I understand, Tax Cut is no longer available for Mac users. Oh well. I have not experienced the variation of numbers from multiple testings of entering my tax data that others have spoken of. I've tested the theory in the past by entering all my information a couple of times, and each time I got the same refund amount. If I were to choose... it'd be Turbo Tax Deluxe hands down. A lot cheaper and easier than going to a CPA!
