A Big Loser : NOT compatible with Security Suites, Vista or XP October 28, 2007 ejlcom (Portland, OR USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I, too, reacted to a recent (PC World) review of this "wonderful" program, buying it, only to have nothing but trouble with the blasted thing. It completely locked up my Windows Vista desktop computer and really caused havoc with my Windows XP laptop. I ended up starting all over with the Windows Vista computer, having to format and reinstall Vista. My security suite programs (I've used both Kaspersky--dumped it-- and--went to--Norton) tend to shut this program down, probably because it acts like a virus! I have contacted PC Tools tech support, only to receive a long list of complicated "things to do" (like clean up my system tray, which I keep at a bare minimum anyway) but they have no clue what my problem is. There are no guarantees of a "fix" with the elaborate list of things I could do (which includes downloading a program to integrate with the Spyware Doctor program) and definitely no agreement to refund my money. My advice: do NOT buy this program!
Not ready for prime time November 10, 2007 Frank Dello Joio (New York) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is an almost working product. Not as expected from PC Tools. Product is a resource hog, locks up windows on shutdown. Tech support while they get back to you promptly and give you a ticket number once you send them the scteen shots showing the problen you never hear from them again and problem not solved. with on guard running programs load like paint drying. When they get the bugs out it will be a worthwhile product.
The best Antispyware Available! December 19, 2007 Mark Beare 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have been running Spyware Doctor for about 6 month now and I must say that I love it. The program is so easy to use and has been given a bunch of awards from magazines and websites. It does slow down my PC a bit as mentioned by other people but no where near as much as Norton and McAfee do! And it's way cheaper than either of those! I would highly recommend this to other people.
Spyware doctor is not creating the slowdown problem July 29, 2008 John Applegate (Seattle, WA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my story and i'm sticking to it. Got a really bad virus/trojan/spyware called the (xp antivirus 2008), google it. I had Mcafee running and up to date the whole time. It went right past it. Totally took over the browser. I have had these in the past, again that got past Mcafee and it was pretty easy to download a free spyware program like spybot etc and remove it. Not so with the one above. It got to the point where I could not get on the web to download any other programs to try to find and remove, please note, I tried 6 programs and none of them even found the culprit. Spybot, spyware sweeper, spyware terminator etc etc. I went to Best Buy and bought the Spyware Doctor based on the PC mags recommendation, on sale for $15 installed it and ran the scan. It found the problem in the short scan, after removing the bad items it found the computer immediately sped up and I knew it solved the issue, I then ran the full scan and it found it in a few more places. Spyware Doctor saved the day ! and a $200 bill for repairs. I have the same slow down experiences described in the other reviews and have not yet resolved them. However, from what I have found the problem is Mcafee not Spyware Doctor. Mcafee and others like them have compatiblity problems that don't like other competeting spyware programs. Mcafee now wants to run a bleeping virus scan everytime I start the computer. Funny how it's doing that now but not when I was being attacked by XP Antivirus 2008. I am going to remove Mcafee and install a less intrusive virus scan. Please note from what I have read that this is a common problem with Norton, Mcafee and others. They don't want the competition and you can easily find a list of other spyware programs that they don't have compatibility with. Ultimately you will need a program like Spyware doctor because the Mcafee's of the world don't always find the bad guys. Likewise you need them to do certain things the spyware programs don't. This layered effect to fight viruses, trojans, spyware etc is the way to go but they need to be compatible. So we have 15 reviews that want to blame Spyware Doctor but the real culprit is the compatibility with the main anti-virus program being used. Something that they themselves are creating because they don't want the competition. Good luck with XP Antivirus 2008 without Spyware Doctor.

It is too complicated. I purchased this product at the urging of a friend who swears by the program's usefulness. I have been attempting to use this product for a couple of months, but have not found a helpful, overall, item to read that 'coaches/teaches' me how to use this product. I have yet to run this product for fear that it might do something to my machine that I cannot undo. I am a user. Instructions should be simple; for I am not a computer guru. Buck
