I've has Trend Micro security since 2005 liked it and had no problems. The 2008 edition will not autoload on boot up dispite 5 calls to tech support who cannot find a solution. To make it load I have to run services.msc and sort through files and manually initiate a restart of the trend central component file. Obviously a bug that may affect not all but some computers.
I've had it since version 1 and it hasn't let me down. January 8, 2008 R. K. Chandos (Tumwater, Washington United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I first acquired PC-cillin version 1 at my local Costco, and I've been with the product ever since. Over the years I've had many family members, friends, and colleagues complain about how they "just got hit with the such-and-such virus" and their machine was toast. All I got was a notification that an attachment containing the same virus was quarantined. Over the years the product has evolved into a very strong, very sophisticated system protection engine. This also means that it has required better and better hardware over the years. Most of the complaints that I've assisted friends and family with involve understanding of what they are asking the software to do, whether it's printer and file sharing or anti-spam/anti-spyware e-mail scanning. The remainder of the issues has *always* been around trying to run the software on a system that is quite simply not able to handle it (read the specs, they're pretty much on the mark). As far as folks with file and printer sharing issues in the 2008 edition, three clicks into the support option on the TrendMicro website will tell you that the "Office network" firewall profile is specifically set up for file and printer sharing. I use that setting on a three machine peer-to-peer home network to share files among all three machines and a USB ink jet printer on one of the machines and it works like a champ! By the way, file and printer sharing also require the user (YOU) to set up sharing in Windows. That means that you actually have to make a couple more mouse clicks in order to share the files and printers that you want to have accessible through your network. As a computer consultant I regularly recommend this product to my clients and well as the TrendMicro server product for their server farms. As I said above, it's never let me down. I look forward to a long and successful partnership (my machines, their software) and I thank them for recognizing that the average home network typically has more than one machine (the three user license was an excellent decision).
Stay Away from Trend Micro! January 28, 2008 James J. Moore (Hortense, GA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had been a user of PC-Cillin 2006, which was a pretty decent program. So I thought 2008 would be even better. Sadly it is worse than the earlier version. 2006 took a long time to load, but 2008 is twice as slow (or more). I have to wait a good 5 minutes after turning on my PC before I can do anything. Updates are much slower than 2006 as well. 2008 is also a very invasive program, and constantly thinks legit programs are dangerous; preventing them from running until you tell 2008 it's OK. And it does it every time they run. Infuriating! Pop-ups give you the option for 2008 to never ask about running the program again, but they don't work. I am very disappointed in PC-Cillin 2008, and will never buy Trend-Micro software again. >:(
What a nightmare! This is horrible software April 16, 2008 M. Waldorf (Alameda, CA USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
A warning to anyone thinking of buying this software - DON'T DO IT! I have previous versions of Trend products on several machines that I have been very satisfied with, so when I got my new laptop (intel dual core, 2G ram, 160G harddrive), the first thing I installed was the latest and greatest from Trend. Immediately I started having mystery problems with the machine - it was dog slow, I couldn't keep more than a couple of programs open at a time, I'd get "insufficient resources" or "not enough quota" errors, and most disconcerting, random video errors where text would simply not display in windows and dialog boxes. I spent six weeks wasting time trying to track down problems, installing Microsoft patches, adjusting system settings, searching for memory leaks and even going so far as to have the laptop manufacturer replace the RAM. Nothing cured the problem, and worst of all, when the errors would happen, there was no record in the task manager of problems - no RAM consumption, no CPU hogging, no thread tie-ups - NOTHING. I didn't even consider that Trend could be the source of the problem - why should I, their previous products had been excellent, right? Finally, as a last resort before reformatting the drive, I tried taking Trend out of the boot list (not just turning it off after boot, but making sure it doesn't run at all during boot) and guess what? NO MORE PROBLEMS!!! Ever since I removed Trend Internet Security 2008 I've had no problems, real dual-core performance and no abnormal video or resource issues. I've been using Avast for virus protection, which has a very small footprint, and it's FREE. So, in review, even if you've had good luck with Trend products in the past, AVOID TREND INTERNET SECURITY 2008 LIKE THE PLAGUE. If you've got Trend 2008 and any sort of inexplicable system behavior problems, try taking all Trend executibles out of the boot list and see what a difference it makes. Don't lose time and productivity like I did.
Trend Micro Pro October 17, 2007 Kerry M. Kerr (oklahoma) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been using the 2007 version of TM Internet Security, I really liked how is worked, made me feel more secure, I just upgraded to the Trend Micro Pro, andI love it except for I dont get pop up warnings or info notifications, such as inspecting incoming/outgoing mail, or flags pop when i enter a website loaded with spyware, thats the con, the pros is fixes threats automatically, more options for better security and the the ability to turn on Keystroke Encryption wich i really like, shows wireless signal strength and also has the trendprotect built in, but I will always choose Trend Micro Products over any other antivirus internet security products If you have the 2007 version of Trend Micro internet security you can download the upgrade to the Pro you wont have to pay for it, you just down load it and it upgrades the 2007 version and you just renew whenever you 2007 liscense runs out,
