excellent January 15, 2006 Randy Tatel (nashvegas) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
i upgraded to xp on a machine that was running me ... it was a highly unstable os and required rebooting 4-6 times per day when it became overloaded while running multiple programs ... this came to an immediate halt with the conversion to xp ... it's not a mac os by any means but it's a definite bump up if you're on me or 98...
surprised by the stability July 28, 2006 J. Welter 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Of course this software didn't install as advertised; I had to boot from the CD drive to get it installed, but after a couple of hours of tweaking I have an OS that is reasonably stable, unlike that piece of garbage Windows ME which had been running my computer for five years. Can't say that I loved the process of setting XP up, but the results are better than I expected. Perhaps my next computer will also run Windows.
Microsoft Upgrade Review August 6, 2005 C. Seider 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
I attempted to install on one of my computers that was operating on windows 98. It would not install and kept giving me errors. I then installed it on my other computer that was running off of windows ME and it installed just fine. When I went to activate the software, it would not let me. I spent three nights on the phone with customer service for a total of six hours and finally ended up uninstalling and getting product replacement. Good luck with your purchase! Hopefully it works better than mine did.

Worth It To Save Money September 15, 2005 -marlo- (Houston, Texas United States) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
(...) (...) XP is compatible with all of my above software. I was also using Adaptex Easy CD Creator 4 - which IS NOT compatible with XP, BUT isn't needed now b/c XP allows direct copy of files to CD - almost as easy as copying to a floppy. Also, not compatible with Norton. But pop-up blockers etc. built in to XP should protect reasonably well if you're careful to never open an e-mail from someone you don't know. I've loved XP. More user-friendly; doesn't leave you staring at the screen as often asking "now what?" Without desktop you can still run programs by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del.-File-New Task(Run)... The direct-to-CD copying, as mentioned, is great. I keep finding tiny adjustments with XP that have made my life easier. And of course, I can load my iPod & use it. Worth saying that before installing XP I removed all programs for which I had the disks to re-install post-XP; defragged the computer and backed up all of my documents - including information about re-establishing my dialup account and CuteFTP info. I recommend this since I did have to re-input some of this information. In 2007 or so, I will invest in getting a Mac. Though XP does run very well, the Mac does everything it does and more.
