Installs itself! November 9, 2006 Paul Kavanagh (Boca Raton, FL USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
My first attempt failed on Core 2 Duo. After Parallels support pointed me to the updated version, it automatically installed (fast, and amazing to watch) and now runs faster than most Windows machines I've used.
I hate Windows, so I LOVE Parallels!! March 12, 2007 Clifford A. Rabon (Houston, TX USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As an avid Mac user who avoids Windows like the plague, I have been the teacher who has tried for years to continue to use my mac even though my school district has gone PC. Mostly I just use my MacBook Pro and ignore the District. But every once in a while (grades, attendance, district email etc.) I am forced to the dark side. So I jumped at Boot Camp when it came out. Pretty cool. But what a time consuming task to reboot, reboot, reboot. Then I read about Parallels. What a concept. But it didn't work with a Bootcamp installation. I was reluctant to start over, as I had actually installed a couple of PC games (I know, I know). Then came the magic MacWorld announcement: Parallels now boots from a BootCamp Partition. I RUSHED to the website, and within 30 minutes, I was multi-OSing like a fiend. Now I can BootCamp OR Parallel. It does it all: Remote Desktop to my school district for grades, email. It's like having a pc in a window (some say that's a good thing). If you MUST have a PC in a window, then get Parallels. It is incredible!!
Your worst nightmare! April 3, 2007 S. Tarant MD (Midlothian, VA USA) Hard to get going intially, all upgrades have caused the program to crash. Most recent crash led to massive data loss. Support section available at company website but they don't respond to email requests. No phone number provided--you must pay them via credit and then they claim they will call you back--they never called me back! They just took my money! Apple considers this third party software & therefore they do not support it. Keep in mind the following summary: hard to install, upgrades crash the program, risk of massive data loss, no email support, no telephone support. This is your worst nightmare; caveat emptor (buyer beware)!!
Astonishingly Well-Done Software - Easier to Install Vista on a Mac than it is on a PC!!! May 17, 2007 chris2519 (Los Angeles) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I'm new to Macs. I bought a MacBook Pro on impulse the other day because I've been frustrated by upgrading my other PCs to Vista, and how long it takes, and how buggy it is, and how the drivers are never readily available (don't even get me started on why none of the soundcard manufacturers thought to have workable drivers available BEFORE Vista was released). Anyway, I was nervous about taking the plunge and my reliance on certain Windows apps (e.g., Outlook 2007). So I downloaded the 15-day trial version of Parallels. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW SIMPLE AND SEAMLESS IT WORKS!!! Okay, no exaggeration: It was easier to install Vista on my MacBook with Parallels than it was on ANY of my PCs -- it does an automated installation, saving the user from the tedious prompt-answering that a Vista installation normally requires. And, once it installed, it works as well running Vista as any actual PC. Vista boots faster in Parallels on my MacBook Pro (with only 1gb of RAM) than it does on my Sony Vaio TX (with 1.5gb of RAM). Granted it's a faster processor on the MacBook, but this is a program that is running from inside MAC!! And you can run Windows apps on your OSX desktop. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief that it works this smoothly and this seamlessly.
This is NOT the latest version!!! Don't Buy Here! June 26, 2007 S. Lewis (Danville, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Amazon has a little graphic next to the product that says this is the "latest version." It is NOT 3.0. They are dumping inventory on the 2.0 version. Yes, you can upgrade by faxing in your receipt and waiting for an email so you can download the new version... If I wanted to do that, I would have purchased an online download directly. Very maddening.
