Excellente!!! November 5, 2007 S. Akbote (Boston) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been a born Microsoft citizen until last few weeks. I bought iMac. Loving it!!! But missed the BLUE screens of Microsoft and hence bought VMWare on trial. I installed the VMWare. No issues in installation. Able to connect to work thru VPN. Absolute no hassles!!! It rocks!! I am able to enjoy both worlds.
Much better than Parallels 3.0 November 9, 2007 Jack Zigon (Philadelphia PA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I used Parallels from version 1.0 to 3.0 and found it to really slow down my MacBook Pro. Fusion allows me to use my Mac programs without a performance hit.
VMWare shows its professionalism November 25, 2007 -MM- (Virginia, United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
VMWare is widely used by business and it shows in the well thought-out fusion product. It just works. The interface is intuitive and the ability to attach/detach drives, printers, USB devices is nice. Works just like a standalone PC. I can't compare it to Parallels since I have not used it, but I went with this because of VMWare's strong commercial track record and I am not disappointed. Businesses require reliability and the products must work well and VMWare appears to keep improving their product to keep up with changes in the workplace. As a home user in this instance, I appreciate getting a professionally proven product.
Rock Solid, Very Compatible November 25, 2007 Bradley Miller (Luther College, Decorah, IA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After using Parallels for a year on my MacBook Pro, I decided to try VMware about a month ago. I didn't realize how much I was missing. First, I've always struggled getting the latest Ubuntu releases to work on Parallels. For example I have to manually turn on networking every boot. After installing Ubuntu on VMware it just works. Second, and even more importantly I run Windows XP primarily for use with my Garmin 60cx gps unit. On vacation in Europe last summer it drove me crazy that Parallels would just die, I had to carefully choose the smallest set of maps to download or the map transfer would seem to work but when I tried to set up a route on the 60cx I would get errors. After installing VMware I used the handy VMware Importer to transfer my windows image. As a test I tried to download the maps for all of North America. It worked flawlessly the first try. Not only that but I can create routes to even the most remote locations without error. Finally, I really appreciate that the guest operating systems seem more snappy under VMware, while at the same time it is more friendly with my mac applications. I don't feel like my machine is bogged down when I leave a virtual machine running in the background. I mentioned the VMware importer, which is great, the only problem I had when I imported my windows image was that I had turned on desktop sharing in parallels. When I first booted under vmware I could not get to My Documents and I could not install the VMware tools. A couple of quick edits to the registry fixed that problem and everything works just fine.
Turning vision to reality February 13, 2008 Jason Green (Warrenton, Virginia) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It feels great to have Microsoft reduced to a minor role and used only when needed. VMWARE works exactly as advertised. Buying Parallels was a waste of money and time for me. The VMWARE installation was incredibly smooth and it was up and running surprisingly fast. I don't give many 5 stars ratings, but I thinks it's right for this product. I have zero complaints about it. And, I got it all here at Amazon. "A great merchant", as Jeff Macke would say. I thank the reviewers here who steered me towards this product. One of the favorite things I've read on the web is Eric Raymond saying no problem should ever be solved more than once.
