Good Product with some tweaks October 27, 2007 Jack Maegli (beloit, Wisconsin United States) 12 out of 16 found this review helpful
Solid product. Any traces of previous Nortons must be removed before installation, including a manual search and removal of ccSvcHst.exe (a Symantec shared program) which will choke your processor and RAM as it searches for removed elements if not manually removed before installation of the new program (Norton's and Windows un-install does not get rid of it).
Difficulty installing, but once installed, works like a charm - instuctions below December 9, 2007 Mary Chrapliwy 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
As a long-time Norton subscriber I was pleased that it was operational on my new computer - for a 3 month trial that is. Being the old-fashioned type who likes the software in their hands, I purchased the latest Norton Antivirus software. Norton won't install smoothly until you unistall previous versions. Initially I had a terrible time trying to uninstall the old version of NAV that was preinstalled on my computer. I gave up a few times, nearly pulling my hair out each time. As has been reported before, Norton's support isn't good at all. I found a solution one night after work. I finally went to google and typed in the exact issue (which was that I couldn't completely uninstall Norton Antivirus from my computer - I have the new Windows Vista). One of the key things noted was to go to Symantec's website and find the unistaller - that wasn't easy to find at all. Back to Google I went and typed in "norton antivirs uninstaller." That took me directly to the Symantec page that contained the unistaller - I followed the on-screen instructions which worked like a charm removing all traces of the previous NAV software. Once my computer was free of the old version, the new version of NAV installed without so much as a hickup. This version works beautifully, updates easily, and scans completely. I highly recommend it. If you have problems like I did, go to the Norton Antivirus unstaller and run that first, then you won't have problems with the newer version.

Have used Norton for years with no problem. This time installation was a nightmare and had to take it to the repairman to have him uninstall and reinstall. Sad that this year's version had really improved his businness...lots of people have had trouble.
The absolute worst February 14, 2008 Kentucky (Kentucky) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased AntiVirus 2008 because my current system is running a Norton Product, which seems to be a big problem switching from one vendor to another as they seem to leave remnants of the old software behind that can create conflicts. Immediately I was no longer able to access the internet or my email. My ISP verified that the firewall was blocking all access to the internet and gave me Symantec's 800 number. The phone system is designed to deny any caller from speaking to an actual person. They repeatedly asked me to go to their website to figure why their product had caused so many problems, which was obviously impossible. Once I figured out to bypass this, I was told that I could not receive any type of assistance without paying for support (although I had just paid for their product which caused the need for this support). I was told phone support would cost $9.95 which they insisted that I supply a credit card number for to go any farther. Once I paid up, they did have a technician remotely access my system and delete all remnants of this product and install a fix. This took approximately 2 hours. I just checked my credit card balance and the technician charged me $69.95 to repair their flawed $40.00 program. Steer clear is my advice!
Avoid this product October 5, 2007 Palolo Lolo (Hawaii) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I just installed Norton Antivirus 2008 on my computer, which has a 3 GHz processor with 1 Gb of RAM. The Norton AV has slowed my computer to less than half of its previous speed. Launching programs is painful. Avoid this product unless you have either a lot of RAM or patience. Update on 10/6/07: I found a solution to the Norton Memory Pig, which wasn't stopping pop-up ads. I installed the Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and uninstalled the Norton. So far so good.
