Pretty Good Protection, Shop Around For Best Price March 11, 2008 Stony (Milwaukee) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
3.5 Stars to be Exact. Well let me start by saying that I was desperate. I had Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0, that didn't work, so, I tried all kinds of free anti-virus downloads that found viruses/trojans, etc, but the problems kept coming back, even after numerous scans, reboots, updates, uninstalls, etc. I even tried 6.0 one last time to no avail. So, I decided to try the Kaspersky free trial online, however the scan seemed to take forever and a day, so I said the heck with that, and I went out and bought this-Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0, for $63 at Walmart, what a rip off! (Some are selling it for $35 bucks here. I would've bought AntiVirus 7.0 but they didn't have it.) Anyways, after installing the product and doing the updates, the actual scan took NO LESS THAN 5 HOURS to find 4 VIRUSES! The problem was not immediately fixed after that either, I have had to manually delete some strange looking files and scan a couple more times. One thing that you will want to do is change the scan settings so that it will pass over larger files and not take too long to scan each file or you will be waiting for a very long time. It has been 3 days and I'm not sure if the problem is fixed, but now it seems ok. So, eventually the product may work, but it may take some patience and some computer knowledge by the average user. This appears to be the 2nd time that Kaspersky has saved my cpu from the brink of elimination, though I am not totally sure as of yet, but as for the others, Symantec is pretty good we use them at work, but McAfee is the worst of the worst, I would never in a million years give them another try. They crashed my computer and essentially turned it into a non functinal piece of junk.
Excellent Package April 13, 2008 ajc1 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've used TrendIS 2005 & upgrade to the 2006 version, which I've been using, & now its time to update. I love my Trend & its worked great for us with no problems, but ever since the 2007verizon came out I'm sad to say Trend has been slowing going down hill with the 2008 version being the worst ever. What a shame. The company has also had issues, which can be checked out at the BBB. Enough about Trend & now onto Kapersky 7.0. After trying several Internet Security Suites (BitDefender, ZoneAlarm, Avira, Avast,) to name a few, I decided to go with Kaspersky 7.0. For me it offers a complete package, which others didn't have. KIS 7.0 has received an Advanced++ rating from several testing labs with an overall rating of 99.3. The best rating I could find for anyone was 99.6. I see people complain about the price, but if you compare apples to apples all of the suites for a 3-user license are around the same 69-79.00. After using the trial download I found that all sections of the program work well. Easy install, uninstall & install again. However make sure all other programs are shut down such as other spyware programs. Spyware Doctor didn't work at first so I had to uninstall, but after downloading KIS 7.0. I reinstalled Spyware Doctor & it works fine. Kaspersky gives you a list on their site of all non-compatible software. Another nice thing I found is after installing KIS 7.0, with all its features it allowed me to clean up & get ride of several individual programs I was running. It's much lighter on systems resources then others. It offers deep scanning modes in critical areas & they work. The system scans ran about the same as others, which for me took about 35 min. depending on which computer it was ran on (scan times aren't a concern for me as its done at off times so it can take as long as it wants). It found things that Trend missed. It offers good reporting on everything & clean up was easy. I will admit that if you're looking for an install & forget program maybe this isn't for you. It offers heretics & until you train it, it will give you pop ups asking you want to do. I have no problems with these questions as it's doing its job & I'd rather make the decision vs. the program making it for me. After about 1 wk. of training the pop ups were greatly reduced & now its no big deal. Easy instructions are given & there's a link to for an in-depth explanation on each pop up question. It's not that hard that an average user with some common sense couldn't do. It offers backup & restore so need to worry. Real time protection works well & also tells you wants running & usage. I found to gain the full potential of this program its best to tweak the settings, such as enabling risk ware. Again everything is easily explained. Everything is easily laid out & a snap to find. Once tweaked, KIS 7.0 works great. I really like it, so I've ordered up.
Good security & doesn't bog down the system April 25, 2008 Jeanie Haupt (San Luis Obispo, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the 3-user license about a month ago and have installed it on 2 of my computers. So far, I have really liked it. I recommend running the 30-day trial first, which is what I did. PERFORMANCE: It doesn't seem to bog down my system as much as some of the other software I've used in the past like Norton and McAffee Total. USER INTERFACE: for me, it seems to be easy to use and understand the way it is laid out. Only thing I've had a problem with is watching a tv show over the internet. One of the players won't work unless I turn off the software. I haven't figured out which setting I need to change in order to correct this. however, it is extremely simple to turn off, you can pause it right from your task bar and resume based on various options. I love that! (Make sure you are on a safe site if you do this.) E-MAIL & SPAM: I use outlook to download e-mail and I really like the popup you get with the summary of your messages so that you can just checkbox all of the garbage and delete it before it gets to your inbox. Then, it takes all of the other stuff and designates [spam] in anything it thinks is spam, but you have these two buttons at the top - red to flag spam or green for ok. If something gets marked as spam, you just click the green button and the [spam] notation disappears plus it uses this as a learning tool for next time. SCAN SCHEDULING & UPDATES: I love that it gives you options like "every weekend", "every weekday," or more specific or less specific intervals. Also, I think it is great that we get updates every hour (or is it 2 hours?). Either way, that is far beyond what anyone else provides. SIDE NOTE: I also use two free programs - McAfee SiteAdvisor and Spybot as an extra measure of security and so far these are all working fine together. I've also noticed Kaspersky's credentials in some other maker's software (f-secure). --------------------- NEGATIVES: I do still get quite a few popups asking me to allow or deny an activity, so I'm working through those things. It doesn't bother me too much, but it could bug you. Again, try the free 30-day trial and see what you think.
Great Product November 24, 2007 Bill D. (Albany NY) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 3-user My old security suite was by McAfee. Every time I booted up the computer it performed a complete update and scan. This slowed my computer to almost a standstill for about 45 minutes. I installed Kaspersky on all three of my computers, two XP,s and the other with Vista, and each installation was fast and easy. My computers are up and running in less than three minutes. The protection is the highest in the industry and computer speed is as fast as ever.
Top notch December 31, 2007 N. Kuhl (Michigan) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Basic mode runs silently and effectively, not a resource hog. Advanced mode is overwhelming at first with numerous pop-up requests, but as Kaspersky "learns" your computer, these become more rare. Overall, strong product.
