Sometimes it's Good to Feel Protected August 13, 2008 Sara Hackett (from the Darkside) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
McAfee VirusScan Plus installed without a hitch and as far as I know it went right to work. Did I get a speed hit? Not that I noticed, but then I don't time my startup or how long it takes something to open. Everything seemed normal. I don't surf the net much with my Windows machine, Yahoo for my e-mail, Amazon and Google, that's about it, so till now, I've had no protection. It's not that I don't use the internet, it's just that I usually go there via my iMac. But my Sony Viao (which I use mostly for writing) is protected now so I suppose I can go to all those sites I've been avoiding. Just kidding. The internet is supposed to be a good thing and as far as I'm concerned if you go to those places, and you know the places I'm talking about, then you deserve whatever bad thing happens to your computer. Still, if you feel you have to go there, for research maybe, then this is undoubtedly a good product to have.
Will not use McAfee products in the future February 8, 2008 Simulaman (The dark side of the mind) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this product for use on my home computers. Each of these computers already had a trial version of McAfee which came from the manufacturer. I have had numerous problems installing this product; some of them are: 1. On the first computer I installed the out of box version without removing the trial version. This didn't work, in fact it hosed up my computer so badly I had to do a system restore. I then uninstalled the trial version and re-installed the box version. 2. I am susposed to be able to register 3 computer with this liscense. When I registered the first computer I had to create a user account. They required a complicated password, so I couldn't use any of my standard userid/password combos. When I attempted to register my second computer I could remember the password; Since I hate spam, I used a temporary email address to register the first copy (why do they need my email anyway?); now I have no way to register additional computers. 3. This program bogs my computer down. Since I have a slow internet connection it can take many additional minutes to boot my computer. I have tried to disable automatic updates; but this didn't help. What is this program doing over the internet anyway? Recommendation: GET SYMANTIC
AVG anti virus is Free online, why pay money... March 9, 2008 Garrett Yarbrough (Fitzgerald, GA United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Folks I used Norton system works a couple of years ago, then I decided to switch to this McAfee stuff only to hate its anoying bell rings and some other things etc. Then somebody on a online chat room told me about AVG anti virus and the anti-virus is free to download and stays updated. If you think about it all you really need is the anti-virus, microsoft has you cover with a firewall and most spyware blocker tools, so all you really need is the anti-virus. Its been several months and I have had no virus, NONE, no problems NONE at all. Hands down, AVG anti virus has been the best thing that has ever happen to me, it doesnt bother you and it does the job extremly well and it updates when needed. And the best part, IT FREE... :D

Only updates Monday to Friday! May 28, 2008 TheGonz (Lima, Peru) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's the first antivirus product (I've used Kaskpersky, Panda, Avira, AVG and Norton) that updates only from monday to friday! Is it reasonable? Do McAfee think that worms and virus appear only on business days? Other con is that The firewall doesn't block all ports according to two different online tests. Pros are that the product doesn't slow Windows Vista, is light on resources and has good virus/worms detection rate according to indepedent studies. But the thing is that McAfee only updates once a day between 11am-3pm and that gives me the impression that I'm not properly protected...
