1 out of 5 stars Horrible Software - Have Reinstalled FOUR Times   December 5, 2007
George L. Pardi (Amesbury, MA USA)

Save your money and buy something else. Though highly rated in a recent Consumer Report, the installation hassles with this program make it worthless. I've reinstalled it FOUR times. It will work for a while, then it quits after loading at Windows startup. The only way to get the program working again is to uninstall, reinstall, then download the updates and run a scan once more.

Trend Micro technical support is non-existent. Automated responses, useless chat system with nobody responding to it, FAQs and online help that don't even acknowledge problems with the software. See the December 2007 edition of PC Magazine for further info on the installation problems with this program. If a techie from PC Magazine had problems and had to rely on support, then what do you think your chances are? You can't leave a message that you're PC Magazine calling with an installation problem now, can you?

Sadly, this is what's wrong with the world today. There is no customer service, no human beings that stand behind the products. Everything's been off-shored to India, China or some other place. In short, it's a crapshoot when you buy anything today.

STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM TREND MICRO AND THIS PRODUCT!!!

2 out of 5 stars Trend Micro support is POOR   November 17, 2007

Trend Micro's support is about the most ineffective and inefficient I have ever encountered. Just learning the product is enough, but I spent over 8 hours, over the course of 2 days just trying to either establish a 'chat' session, or a phone session. The problem was clear and I was amazed, once I established a phone conversation, how many times I had to have them describe the problem to ensure they understood it. Very frustrating.
In addition Internet Security 2008 isn't even a selection when accessing their Solution ID data base.

2 out of 5 stars Not Happy!   November 29, 2007

I bought Trend's product based upon the recommendation of Consumer Reports - What a mistake!

The product seems to work OK on my XP desktop, but connecting with my wireless card on my Vista laptop is another story. If I face the east, hold a Rosary in one hand and a small statue of Buda in the other, sometimes the Trend program will allow my wireless card to connect. Sometimes.

The program will also block actions by programs I want to do something, even when I have initiated the program. No questions - just termination.

Since installing Trend my laptop experiences the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) without explanation. Trying to get help from Trend is impossible. They are so overwhelmed with calls that getting through to someone may qualify as a miracle.

Not happy with Trend. Not happy with Norton. Not happy with McAfee. Really not happy with Microsoft for introducing Vista!

4 out of 5 stars Almost as good as pro version if you use Firefox   November 3, 2007

In general TrendMicro IS "TIS" is a good product, especially if you use Internet Explorer. The real difference between pro and regular version is a keyloger blocking and secure folder support, but if you use firefox you out of luck "TIS" keyloger only support IE - for now. Things that I really like is that is very light on PC resources and has very fast scanning. If you own older PC or have only 512MB RAM with XP & 1024MB RAM with Vista this is one of the best options on the market. Norton uses much more resources and takes twice as long to scan your PC. But Norton does few things much better, like spyware blocking, keyloger & protection from direct attacks. So if you have a powerful computer (2GB RAM) you might like Norton better. Few more things about "TIS Pro". License is for 3 users, and technical support is very good over the phone.
Now Parent who have kids: "TIS" Parental control: when activated it blocks access to Web sites matching ten undesirable categories such as Spyware, Sex, and Gambling. You can optionally tell it to block any or all of fifteen other categories including Games, Email, and Shopping. But it works only in Internet Explorer and Firefox. So if you use Opera or Safari to go on internet don't buy "TIS". If TIS errs in the other direction and blocks a site it shouldn't, there's no easy way to make an exception. You have to open the main program, navigate to parental control settings, and manually add the site to an exceptions list. Make sure you set a password protection in a command window other wise kids can just turn it of. Another good thing for parent it keeps all logs of browsing history, so you can keep track of what your kids doing. "TIS" also works grate on a network including NAS(you might have to lower your firewall protection level), but one thing it has called network monitoring with shows who is connected to your network. Grate idea but not fully implemented it's actually annoying because of it's pop up. Any bugs that your might get during installation it means that your PC has too many spyware problems , besides that I personally had no problems with or after installation. I do confirm that "TIS" will ask you to uninstall other spyware detection software, but I had no problem reinstalling it later. And you do need 2 spyware blocking programs no matter you use Norton, TIS or Panda. I use free spybot search & destroy. So after all would I buy it again. YES, because I have a 2 year old laptop with 512MB RAM and again it's a laptop so security software that does what it should without slowing down my PC and draining all battery power it's what I need. Plus I hope that future updates will solve those few problem that "TIS" has.

Little Add-on: My rating went down to 3.5 stars I found that it stops from installing few games like diabloII, so you have to turn "TIS" of in some cases restart your PC, turn of "TIS" & and then install the game. I informed Trend Micro about this bug so hopefully the will be a bug fix soon. So my recommendation on buying this product is to wait a month or so if you not in a hurry to buy security software.
