Tech support, customization, and upgrading is no problem. January 31, 2004 S Smyth (Belfast, Co Antrim United Kingdom) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
Unlike Final Draft, Movie Magic is properly supported, and for free, for registered users of this software. Movie magic will also allow the user to have their screenplay as formally or as skeletally formatted as the user wishes by using the Edit > Format property sheet. So if anyone doesn't want to have (continued) continued for action breaking across a page they can exclude or include that particular formatting detail. They can also switch off and on as many toolbars and speedbars as they wish. So you can have the application window all `bells and whistles' or as skinny as possible. It is a good idea to spend some time with the Edit > Format page and Printer Setup page to get a better insight to Movie Magic's flexibility. And users should keep up to date with the latest upgrades - for free to registered users - to avail themselves of any improvements to performance and elimination of bugs.
Movie MAGIC Screenwriter August 26, 2004 J. Grant (Seattle, Wash.) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
First of all I took a whole day (24 hrs. can be a lot to me) comparing this screenwriter to all the others through tech. sites, etc. At first Final Draft was looking like the runaway favorite, and I am sure F.D. is great. Just like Indie movie's however, big budget does not always mean big success. Secondly, I received the software and the "The Screenwriter's Bible" in 2.5 days. Time counts when your old formatter has given up its last line, and it wasn't a funny line either. If you can use MS Word you can use this software. Only suggestion is when making the decisions it asks you to make during installation: take your time.
Highly Recommended January 1, 2005 Film Fan (Hawaii) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Great for writing screenplays, teleplays or any work of fiction. Keep track of characters, move scenes around, and be able to register your work with the WGA immediately. This software came highly recommended by screenwriter friends and writing workshop instructors. The free book, The Screenwriter's Bible, is the perfect companion for this software.
you need this program April 22, 2005 T. Dewey (New York, NY) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This review is in response to A.A. Cucolo "trezku13" If you are serious about writing scripts you need a screenwriting program. And there are only two that should be considered Movie Magic Screenwriter or Final Draft. I choose MMS because of bugs with the release of FD 7.0. Apparantly FD 7.1 has been bug-fixed and may now be the better purchase. I don't know--I'm sticking with MMS. Now it is true you could use Word or Wordperfect to write "Cut To:" several thousand times, but why on earth would you. Scripts need to be in a particular format, and screenwriting programs make putting the script in that format significantly easier than screwing around with Word. A comparison might be made to cooking, sure you can make Chinese food without a wok--but why on earth would you? Word processing programs are general purpose tools that can be re-fitted to produce scripts. Screenwriting programs are specific purpose tools that are designed to do one thing well--produce scripts. There is no serious screenwriter out there today that does not use one of the two programs mentioned above (Movie Magic Screenwriter or Final Draft)--even those screenwriters who prefer to do their first draft on paper subsequently move those pages to electronic format in one of these programs. Is this worth $172 or $200 or $250? Considering that a spec script can sell for over $500,000--and the surest way to get that script rejected is to use improper script format--I'd have to say yes.
good product March 17, 2004 A. Arnold (IN) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Movie Magic Screenwriter is the first screenwriting software I have used. I think that it is a good product, and user friendly. I crank it up everyday, more than MS word. Only problem is the voices don't work.
