Dumbed down and harder to use July 29, 2007 Joshua Nelson (Waukegan, IL USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The new ribbon design is supposed to make it easier to learn and use. It may be for some new users but for experienced users, it isn't. This version takes away some critical nuts & bolts customization features and many tasks now take longer to perform. This is not due to the learning curve, it is the inherent nature of the way the ribbon works. Once you are familiar with the program, nothing is faster than the old menu structure. If Microsoft added an option to allow users to choose between menus and ribbons, it would be the best of both worlds, satisfying the needs of both new and experienced users. The new version does not run macros as fast however. My recommedation for existing users: keep Office 2003 for as long as you can and consider going to Open Office when Microsoft no longer supports 2003 (unless they restore the functionality in a newer release of 2007).
Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 May 6, 2007 James E. Amos (Mililani, Hawaii) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Excellent product and improvements. I particularly like the way Microsoft has positioned the navigation/utility buttons at the top - very intuitive. Everything is in one place - no guessing where to find it! However, you must remember that when "sharing" your documents with people who do not have Office 2007, you must save it as Office 97-2003 or they won't be able to open it. As usual, Microsoft has made this task easy.
Great Product! April 9, 2007 Carlos Rodriguez (Kissimmee, FL United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am not a professional reviewer or a tech guru, but based on my experience with this product I am very satisfied. I love the new interface and how easy it is to work with documents and apply formatting with such ease. I have only used it for a month now and I still have to use some of the applications yet. If you have the money and will love to have a new Office Suite that can give you some happiness working with documents every day, go for it.
So close to being purchased by our department... April 12, 2007 O. shaikh (Tokyo, Minato-ku Japan) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Our legal department reviewed this product and it fell short in one critical area. The email program (Outlook) does not support single page printing. (One can view emails in a web browser but then the message headings are not printed). We often receive long email threads and for the purpose of keeping records find its wasteful to have to print out the entire thread. The single page printing was available in the previous rendition of Office which we have decided to keep. Shame though, since the new Word is a beauty...
The worst. Ever. March 12, 2008 hryan (Atlanta, GA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Vista has a twin, and its name is Office 2007. And I'm embarrassed to admit I failed to do the research I should have done, and typically thoroughly do before buying anything. Yes, it got me. I was lulled by thoughts of, "I know Windows and Office applications like the back of my hand--how different could it possibly be?" And why shouldn't I think that given the compatibility and cohesion of past Office versions? Like many I'm sure, even with new or updated MS products I've pretty much always been able to, at the very *least*, intuit and immediately execute core commands--read: effective and efficient productivity right out of the box. Well, that party has come to a brutal ended with the Office '07 suites. With its completely new interface (within which the same user-friendly Office functions we've all come to know and love are purportedly buried), MS has released a product I've found to be astoundingly unintuitive and difficult to learn (i.e., nowhere near worth the time it would take to figure out), not to mention incredibly slow to run. Then, once I started to get the hang of the method to their madness a little bit, my feeble hopes were quickly dashed when I discovered there to be MINIMAL ability to customize menus, toolbars, buttons, functions, etc such that I could better take advantage of said "improvements". Can't wait to see the new TV commercial Mac will inevitably come up with to mock this mock-worthy software. Don't get me wrong folks, overall I'm a big PC/MS/Win/Office fan. But, wow, for these and other troublesome reasons already described elsewhere, this one has left me utterly stunned.
