Bad Sharp Experience October 9, 2007 jedi_nitemare (Central New York, USA) 13 out of 26 found this review helpful
I won't buy another Sharp product. I thought they had a good reputation and the microwave was no exception until, like most microwaves, it stopped working properly after a number of years. This particular problem is especially alarming, though: it turned itself on while unattended! Most of the microwave instructions I've read say not to use the microwave with nothing in it because it can be a fire hazard. Yet, from time to time, this thing would just start running on its own and it scared the heck out of me. It continued to function when I wanted it to, but starting up on its own was a definite hazard. I kept it unplugged when not in use, until I finally put it out with the trash. I contacted Sharp and asked if there was a safety recall for the model I had, but they said there wasn't one. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person who had this problem before, and Sharp did nothing to make things better. I'm on my third Panasonic microwave, which tends to last more than five years at a time, and when they fail to work properly, they just don't work. I will continue to trust Panasonic and will never trust Sharp again. I can't afford to risk my house burning down while I'm asleep or away from the house.
Not as good a quality as expected May 14, 2007 Gerald V. Collins (Kingston, NH) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
This Sharp microwave was less than I expected. It replaced a Panasonic and the build quality is definitely inferior. Opening and closing the door, one gets the feeling that they are breaking it. It is also very loud. However, it does seem to cook fairly evenly.
great - if this is what one needs. It is for me May 20, 2007 Gene T. Blakely 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I had another brand which did magnificently for 12 years. I couldn't find one similar in the same brand, so went to the Sharp. It is the size that a couple almost 80 years old can use best. We do little cooking in the microwave - more reheating coffee, or warming up food that has already been cooked on the stove. Oh, it does cook our oatmeal daily - generally 3 min at 50% power. Price was right, and shipping was included. Why not 5 stars? -- we prefer the door with a handle like our previous microwave had. For those who prefer "push" over "pull" - it is a 5 star.Sharp R-305KS 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless
