great quality-price ratio February 15, 2007 J. R. Stone (Milton, MA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was a bit concerned about how good the quality of this set would be, given that it's just $24.95 vs. at least $50 or much more for other sets. However, I had a great time using it on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands last week. I used it four days in a row and did well as a first-time snorkeler. I had to use vaseline on my mustache to make a good seal at the bottom part of the mask, but I think that would be true with any mask. The fins seem to be made of a fairly stiff plastic and are a bit long - my friends' fins were shorter and more rubbery and flexible. But this is a minor quibble since you're only snorkeling 15-30 minutes at a time and the fins work well enough. And the snorkel was fine. All in all, an excellent value at this price for a beginning snorkeler. By the way, I saw gorgeous coral, fish, a sea turtle and three sting rays at Cinnamon Bay, Waterlemon Bay and Hanson Bay. It was like being inside an aquarium.
Good for larger dude. April 18, 2007 J. POLCHOW (Columbus, Ohio) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Tried out the set today at the pool, works well. The fins fit good even though I wear size 15 shoe. Snug but not painful. The snorkel could be longer, but works suffieciently... I've never snorkeled before and I think I have it down in a hour... to clear it of water you have to put one hand over the end near your mouth while you blow. Works well enough you can go down, come up, clear water, and keep you head down. The mask is the part of the set that needs help, while trying to adjust the strap, it broke. So I took off the plastic adjustment piece and fed the strap though the hole where the strap was mounted and it stays better. I think it works better after I broke it and improvised. I think I'll do that to the other side too. Fogged up a bit too, but I bet there's a secret about that too... overall Fins A+ not too big, snug fit for larger feet Snorkel B- easy to use once you get the hang of it Mask C+ strap adjustment lock sucks, better once you break it & Improvise Price/Value A- Best deal I found for <$30
A ruined snorkeling trip January 14, 2008 Becky Connolly (Kelso, WA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased two of these snorkel sets for a long-planned trip to Maui over New Year's. Unfortunately, the first time I used one of the masks, a plastic pin that holds the strap to the mask broke. The pin flew into the ocean, and the mask was useless. I thought it was just a fluke and proceeded to share the other mask. On the third use of the other mask, the same thing happened. We were left without a mask which definitely impacted our snorkeling! To say the least, I wouldn't recommend this product.
perhaps it depends on your face March 8, 2007 Jacqui (NYC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We bought 2 of these for our trip to the carribean. I was very satisfied with mine, but my boyfriends mask kept leaking. I tried both masks and neither leaked for me. Perhaps his bone structure is not compatible. The flippers and snorkel worked well for both of us.
Liked this so much, I had to buy another March 31, 2007 Rachel (Florida) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this last year for a trip to the Carribean. I only bought one set for my husband to use. I used it while we were there, also, and liked it so much I decided to buy another set for myself. The mask fits well, the fins are great, the snorkel works well and it's easy to get any water out of it.
