Very solid design, but could be brighter June 11, 2000 Tristan Lawrence (New York, NY United States) 15 out of 23 found this review helpful
I agree with everything that the other reviewers said-this is a very well built flashlight, a great value, and able to shrug off outrageous abuse. So why have I only given it three stars? In my opinion, such a hefty light should be considerably brighter. The 2-D cell version is of moderate brightness at best and the larger versions are not much better.
The only kind of flashlight I'm using. October 28, 2000 Uri Raz (Israel) 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
I love Mag flashlights, and especially this one. It's strong, the four D batteries dont run out quickly, has an on/off switch (unlike smaller Mag models), and doesnt generate much heat. When electricity blacks-out, the torch mode of this flash light (the lense can be taken off) is very useful - I can continue studying / reading / writing for some while, as the light is strong enough. I bought it about a year ago, as a small insurance in case the Y2K bug would have taken the electricity down, and it proved itself useful since.
A Terrific & Dependable Ally When You Need One! October 21, 2000 Barron Laycock (Temple, New Hampshire United States) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Anyone who lives as far out in the rural countryside as I do gets accustomed to power interruptions, whether they are due to downed power lines from ice storms, someone hitting a key telephone pole and knocking out a transformer, or is the result of one of the occassional electrical storms we have during the warmer months of the year. In any and all of these circumstances I can always depend on my collection of mag-lights to see me through the darkness of the house in order to light my well-used candles and oil lamps until the power is finally restored. I also have one in each of my two trucks, and when I recently narrowly missed hitting a startled deer late at night and went off the road into a muddy field, the trusty mag light was invaluable in helping me find a winching point to pull myself out of the muddy gully. So, whether it is a venture down into the blackened hole my basement becomes late at night, or finding my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I can always depend on my mag lights to candle-power my way wherever I am going. I have three or four of the larger ones like the one displayed here, but actually have more than five or six of the smaller ones as well. I love mine, and although I seem to misplace at least one or two a year, I always have an ample supply of both mag-lights and replacement batteries because I find they are absolutely essential out here in the woods. Great work light August 27, 2001 Brian_C (Erie, PA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
It's lighter than the 6 cell and easier to handle. It also takes a beating and keeps on working. At most, you may need to replace the bulb if it takes a really hard blow. If you need a flashlight spend a few more dollars and get one of these. They are worth it.If you want a "torch" buy a Surefire. They are smaller, brighter, and a lot weigh about as much as a mini-maglite. If you want durability however buy a Maglite.
Great light, well worth the price. November 21, 2000 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I carried a mag-light with me for a good many years while driving truck. A truck cab is probably one of the hardest places there is on flashlights, they never seem to last yet I never had a problem with the mag-light Once in a truck stop I saw a driver set his mag light on a tire and forget it was there, when he started to move the truck the light fell off and was ran over by the tire. When he realized what he had done he stopped and picked up the light and it was still working. Any other flashlight would have been flattened. If nothing else this made a believer out of me.
