Watch out for the "Water Hammer" March 23, 2003 RJS (Minneapolis, Minnesota United States) 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
Used this product last summer. It is easy to operate and works as advertised. However, the rubber diaphragm, which controls the water flow goes from totally closed to totally open in an instant, which creates, at least in my plumbing, a banging water hammer effect on my basement pipes.I'm going back to the Melnor product this year. It's turning mechancal valve allows for a gradual transition from on to off which eliminated the pounding on the pipes.

9400 is a much better product June 5, 2000 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
The Gilmour products are easy to use, reliable, and for a few dollars more, the 9400 offers a real-time clock, which you can set day of week. either way, both products are great.
Set It and Forget It! July 13, 2005 J. Luckey 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
The reliability of battery operated sprinkler valves has been going up in recent years and Gilmour seems to be leading the pack. I have tried them all! This model costs less than their model 9600? and gives you one watering cycle per day. However, I found myself only using one of the four cycles on the 9600 and was happy to find the lower cost model. Unlike other single cycle, analog timers on the market you don't have to get up at 4am if you want to start watering at that time tomorrow! It allows you to manually advance to the time you want. Coupled with drip systems available today, this valve will give you a lot more freedom for fishing and having fun. And, coupled with the Naan sprinkler, you can enjoy full lawn coverage at a fraction of the cost of an underground system. Jim Luckey Eugene, OR
