P4400 Kill A Watt Tool July 12, 2008 Bob Sorelle (Sacramento, CA USA) It is easy to use and provides various tests (volt, amp, watt, Hz, KWH); and is allowing me to check devices. Old refrigerator's power requirements, computer power drain, etc.
Easily discover true electricity use July 15, 2008 R. Peine (Orlando, FL USA) The Kill A Watt meter is easy to use, just plug it in and then plug in the appliance to be tested for electric use. Findings: My 600 watt coffee maker actually draws 820 watts, a consideration when I have to use a back up generator after a hurricane. Good stuff: my new desktop computer only draws 1 watt on stand-by, compared to my older desktop which draws 20 watts. Really great news: my full size refrigerator only draws 120 watts with the door closed, so I will be easily able to run it on a generator. Also, the unit can be left for 24 hours to measure a day's worth of usage and figure the monthly cost. It shows volts, amps, watts, frequency, and kwh used. This meter will help find energy wasters. I recommend it.
Good tool. July 16, 2008 Geo It is a easy to use monitor. Really knows what equipment are the most that impact your utility bill.
Great energy monitoring product can lead to energy savings August 3, 2008 Rich (Urbandale, IA USA) Allows one to find out how much energy is being used by the various 120v appliances around the house (both while on and 'off'), then come up with strategies to reduce energy usage (and bills). This product allowed me to identify electronic products to be retired, replaced, used less, unplugged when not in use, and/or put timers on so that my energy use (and energy bill) can go down. Some devices draw power even when you have the power switched off, this device can help you identify such devices and then implement appropriate strategies given your needs.
Watt is that appliance doing? August 4, 2008 John Crunk (Northern California, USA) It seems that everyone is trying to cut their power usage, and I'm no exception. This little device is about as simple to operate as it gets. Just plug it in and let it work for a day or so. It gives you all the electrical data you can use and with a spreadsheet and your utility bill, you can quickly see which appliance is hogging the meter. Be warned, however, that the Kill A Watt will not work on your 220 volt appliances like water heaters and dryers. For that you will have to read the specs and do some crystal ball work. My only criticism of the device is that when you unplug it all the collected data is lost. A battery backup for the data would be nice.
