Great little unit January 18, 2008 John Matthews 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a great little product for the money. Starts very easily and has both 12V and 110V outlets (voltmeter on the 110V). One thing to be aware of is that it is 850W constant and 1250W peak. This should be able to handle most 'single' items with some thought on the power requirements. It's small and portable enough to be moved around and the tank is large enough for a long run time which offsets the fact that it's a two stroke and you have to mix the gas/oil.
INEXPENSIVE LITTLE GENERATOR January 2, 2008 Michael J. Mascolo (OHIO) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I JUST BOUGHT THIS LITTLE GENERATOR IN THE EVENT OF POWER FAILURES DUE TO STORMS ETC. THE UNIT ARRIVED IN GOOD SHAPE & APPEARED TO BE SOLIDLY BUILT. FUELED IT UP WITH 50 TO 1 MIX & FIRED THE UNIT UP. IT DID START ON THE 2ND PULL & RAN FINE. THE UNIT IS LOUDER THAN I THOUGHT BUT IT DID RUN WELL WITH NO PROBLEMS. PLUGGED IN A RADIO & LIGHTS & THE UNIT POWERED THEM FINE. LET THE UNIT RUN FOR APPROX. 2 HOURS WITH NO PROBLEMS. ALLOWED THE UNIT TO RUN OUT OF FUEL & STORED IT AWAY UNTIL I MIGHT NEED IT. GREAT UNIT BUT IT IS LOUD & REMINDED ME OF MY 2 STROKE SNOW THROWER. IN THE SUMMER IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE LOUD FOR THE NEIGHBORS BUT IN THE WINTER IT'S NO PROBLEM. AGAIN WE WILL SEE HOW IT HOLDS UP WITH USE BUT IT SEEMS GOOD AS OF NOW. WILL GIVE THE UNIT TWO THUMBS UP!
Unbelievable Value February 2, 2008 Elizabeth (MN, USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
For $100, this generator really gets it done. We live in an area that is under heavy development and have 4 - 8 hour electric outages every couple of months. Rather than being seriously inconvenienced, we can watch TV, listen to music, have lights on, etc. It won't run the refrigerator but its great for the little conveniences in life. We may get the 4000 W model if the outages continue. It also starts very easily - in only a couple of pulls. I would have given it 5 stars, but we also experience minor shipping damage. There wasn't a lot of packaging material and one of the feet broke off when we took it out of the box. We glued it back on and everything was fine.
Minor shipping damage repaired and so far so good November 23, 2007 Brit_Rider (Cinti Oh) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
It arrived with a broken spark plug even though the box did not have much damage. Just bad factory packaging. It runs fine but expect a little heavy exhaust as in any 2 cycle engine.I tested it with an electric heater at 500 and 1000 watts and it ran fine. I hit 1500 watts for a minute to see if the breaker would pop, it didn't. I suggest you don't change from a high load to a low load while its running, it causes over rev. I don't plan on using it for a constant power source only when needed while camping. It's small and light weight, convenient to travel with. For light use it should be fine but I wouldn't depend on it for an "Outage" situation. I have a large 6500 watt generator for that. I wouldn't have paid srp $199.99 for it but for $99.00 it's a good deal.
More shipping damage April 2, 2008 D. J. Weaver (NY) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Thankfully, someone else had the same problem so we knew what to look for. I spent five minutes trying to get it to start... kept running for a sec and knocking out. The ceramic on the spark plug had a hairline crack. The spark plug is placed in such a way that this is BOUND to happen to most of the units shipped. They ought to ship the unit with the plug in the parts bag. The good news is that a spark plug from a 77 Dodge van with a 318 fits perfectly. It started on the first pull after that. It works well, was a heck of a good value and comes in handy for camping out and powering our tool shed's lights and power tools (small ones). Its actually easier to carry the generator than run a 100 foot extention cord. The 12 volt battery charger is also a great feature! My suggestion to anyone buying one is to make sure they run GOOD 2 cycle oil (Echo, Stihl, Husquvarna, etc). The outboard engine stuff isnt as good as brand name chainsaw oils. You'll likely get many more years of service out of it with good oil. Also drain the gas if you are storing for more than a couple of weeks, and make sure you ran the unit out of gas so none is left in the carb. Gas sours quickly and will mess up a carb in short order.
