The 251D was better April 5, 2007 William J. Mitchell 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I looked at the new and improved 265D model and it does not compare to the 251D that has a pressure lever. Someone mentioned that a 2 x 4 or a piece of oak cut to fit in the sliding patio door track was better. A 2 x 4 can be stained to match the door trim. The 251D could be inserted in the sliding patio door to keep intruders from lifting the patio door out of the track. That was a nice feature of the 251D model. Someone at MasterLock did not test it very well. The 251D was better.
Intruders won't get in with this one July 5, 2007 Gift Card Recipient (Grand Rapids, Michigan) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am so glad I puchased this security bar. I learned the hard way how well it worked. The first weekend I used it I locked myself out (went out of the garage door and did not have my garage opener with me) and had to climb in through the balcony. The security would not budge and the small opening that was available when we unlocked the door with the key was not large enough to poke anything through to try and dislodge it. This is a great buy in order to get some security. An intruder would literally have to break down the door or break the glass (if you have it on your door) to get in.
Works very well July 25, 2007 aznissan (phoenix, AZ) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is just what I was looking for. A little extra security for my front door. We have tile in the entry way, and when in place it is very secure. To test it out I have tried to open the door with a lot of force, with it in place. It kept the door closed and secure. It is very easy to assemble, adjust and use. Several of my family members have purchased it and love it also. Would buy again.
I should have read the description more carefully March 31, 2007 KierkegaardFan (Los Angeles, CA United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I once purchased a door bar for three times the cost of this product. It had a "lever" mechanism that tightened the hold on the door knob, something that this product doesn't have. I realized my mistake in not reading the description of this product more carefully. It is not as high quality as the other one I used. This one has "pin" that you insert into a hole once you estimate how long you need the bar to be, and somehow I can't adjust it as well as I would like. I recommend that you look into purchasing a more expensive and higher-quality door bar.
Every little bit of security helps March 3, 2008 M. Downes (Kissimmee, FL USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
We don't live in a crime-ridden area, but with the economy tanking and monitored security systems being so expensive, we're doing a few things on our own to better protect our property. This security bar is easy to use and definitely gives peace of mind. It comes ready to go; you just extend it so the base is about 16 inches from the door with the top bit snug under the doorknob, and lock the bar at that length. Using it is easy too, just set it under the doorknob and kick the base towards the door to secure it. A sideways kick releases it. We're using it on an uncarpeted area. I wouldn't use this item on a patio door as it's too easy to defeat simply by removing the door, something thieves are good at. My only complaint with this item is with Amazon, not the item itself. It was delivered in a huge box stuffed with an astounding amount of paper. The waste appalled us. Is it too much to ask that Amazon be more environmentally friendly when packaging items, and find appropriately sized boxes rather than just grabbing the first box that will contain an item?
