It worked January 15, 2008 Free Wheel'n (East Coast) I didn't have much hope of this working but I gave it a try. It is daunting to open and dismantle the opener. The drift pin was a bit hard to remove, but it was done. I had help so that made the job go faster, but taking our time it was about two hours.
Not bad January 22, 2008 M.S. I don't really enjoy doing home maintenance projects, I'm young and lazy, but replacing a stripped gear seemed like something I could handle. Some notes: This really needed to be a two person job. I didn't realize it at the time, but hanging the garage door opener back on the ceiling is a lot harder than getting it down! Also, I had an extremely difficult time removing the gear pin from the shaft. I must have hammered at that thing for hours. I ended up burning the plastic gear off in a wood stove. Which was a cheat for inadequate tools, but it worked! I was able to pull the pin out straight away after that. So now my garage door works once again. Also the kit arrived quickly and came with surprisingly good instructions.
LiftMaster Gear Kit - Do It Yourself February 21, 2008 S. Mounger (Virginia) I installed this product while drinking a twelve pack of beer and did it in two hours. Outstanding replacement gear! I can't wait for it to break again in about eight years to I can fix it again without paying someone a stupid amount of money or replacing the entire garage motor. All I can say is, "Wow!" Had no idea that this problem was such an easy fix. Thank you!!
Sears Garage Door Opener Repair Kit February 22, 2008 E. Solomon (AL USA) This merchant was very responsive and the kit that was sent had everything, including instructions, needed to replace the drive gear in my Sears garage door opener. I would purchase from this merchant again.
fixing the garage door opener March 4, 2008 Scott W. Scudamore (Wash DC Metro area) It was pretty straight forward. To remove he gear you only need to take out one pin not both like I did. It took about an hour but saved me close to $100 in a repair bill or worse a new opener.
