Worst "reconditioned" item that I have experienced. May 7, 2008 Fine Woodworker (Rockville, MD United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Received the trimmer 5/5/08. First impression: the seller seems to have its own definition of "reconditioned". The trimmer attachment was new but the body was dirty and was partially cracked. Probably the one that I received had been used nearly one full season. If this is a used item that one would find on Craigslist for $25, I guess it would be reasonable. However, the description "minor cosmetic blemishes" is not accurate and $46.99 would be a little steep.
Powerful trimmer, but mine burned out June 2, 2008 Michael H. Wofsey (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used this for one season, and when it worked it was a nice, powerful trimmer. But now I am on the second season for it, and the motor just got hot after about 15 minutes of use and burned out, with smoke coming from motor, the whole bit. The instructions say that it is for intermitten use only, so apparently they know about the problem with the motor overheating. I don't know enough about electric string trimmers, but my electric blower seems to have about the same size motor on it, and I can run it for a long time without it overheating. I guess I'm going to look for a good four-stroke trimmer, or maybe research a more dependable electric trimmer. I didn't mind the cord, but I think an electric trmmer should last for more than one season, and I didn't overuse it in my opinion.
Great little trimmer May 3, 2008 Yan Chu (St Louis, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having owned two electric trimmer previously, a cheap Homelite and Black and Decker where the motor is at the bottom, this unit with the motor at the top is a nice feature that was previously found only on gas units. I dislike the mixing of gas and oil of the 2-cycle trimmers, and the heavy weight of the 4-cycle trimmers. I also dislike winding the spool, or buying new spools for it, so having the ability to swap the spool with an aftermarket replacement head with 0.095" line is great. The balance afforded by the placement of the motor on top is a great feature. This unit came with some scratches on the motor housing and the trimmer shaft but other than that functions well. If this unit dies in the future, I can simply either buy another one for $40, or buy a gas one and can still use all the attachments. All in all, I got this trimmer, the edger, and aftermarket replacement head for less than $100. Works fine so far. With the 1-yr reconditioned warranty and the 1 extra year provided by AMEX Buyer Protection Plan, this deal can't be beat. Would definitely recommend this unit.
Worst trimmer ever June 17, 2008 H. Weber 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I first used this product about a month after receiving it. After the lst half hour of use, the electric motor just about died. If Amazon will pay for packaging and shipping item, I will return it!!
Ryobi String Trimmer May 8, 2008 Judy Link (Mesa, Arizona) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Works great and looks great. I had to really look it over to tell it was actually a reconditioned product.
