Fun for everyone February 2, 2005 L. Cabrera (Los Angeles, CA USA) 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
This is a simple novelty toy. No real educational value, unless your child wants to use it to calculate the odds of a yes or no answer. These 8 Balls are fun for everyone. I keep mine on my computer desk and use it every few days when I'm bored. The only downside to these balls is that they tend to get air inside them after a few months. These small air bubbles will affect the ability of the "answer" cube inside - it will often get stuck midway between answers, so you have to shake it again. I've had this happen with 2 different 8 balls.
Oracle for Modern Plastic Living November 29, 1999 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
My friends and I once took an entire roadtrip on advice from a Magic 8-Ball. "Should we drive to New Orleans?" elicited the answer "It Is Certain" from the mystical powers of chaos that control the twenty-sided oracle inside this little ball of wonder. You can use it to shed light on any indecisive moment, and it comes espcially in handy on a portable keyring. One hint - most of the answers it can supply are positive, so be sure to ask it leading questions in the appropriate direction! (If a little black ball of plastic can be such a powerful dispenser of karmic control, shouldn't we have a little say in the matter too?) Should you buy one for your next random event? "My sources say yes!"

1. The Magic 8 Ball Will not function correctly if asked a question to which you already know the answer (i.e. "am I fat?") 2. Do not ask the Magic 8 Ball the same question twice Used correctly this "toy" will render unprecidented insight and advice...
All of outerspace could not withstand July 15, 2000 J. N. Renninger (Vermont) 15 out of 26 found this review helpful
The Mattel Magic Eight Ball stands in a league all its own. As a foremost authority on balls and ball structure, I must say that this ball has spherical qualities that yearn to be appreciated by the cultured class. The gentle slopes and curves of this ball are almost erotic (see above picture). But, this isn't just any old "ball" as some people callously accuse it; it's also a ball that has powers within. That's right, just ask the sphere if it yearns to be appreciated, and give it a hearty shake and you'll have an answer ("Yes"). There are plenty of lesser, knockoff brands on the market today, often with names like "The Big Magik 8 Ball 'O Fun", that do not possess the steamy delight of the Mattel model. Plus, the answers on these so-called "magic balls" are never anywhere near correct. I use my Mattel Magic Eight Ball for every decision I am ever faced with: "Should I be an Atheist?" I ask the ball. "Ask again later." comes its otherworldly answer. "Perhaps you don't work?" I say, making sure it's in the form of a question. "No." It says. Of course it doesn't matter what answer I get, I could read into it from every angle. "No" means, "No, of course I work, you blockhead." The same goes for the answer "Yes," which means, "Yes, of course I work, you blockhead." These audaciously true responses only lie within the Mattel version. If you're not in it for the subhuman intelligence, you should still buy this ball for reasons all ready pointed out. Just bring this Mattel Magic Eight Ball to any architect and ask him/her what he/she thinks. He/she will take one look at it and say that it's a perfectly shaped ball. So, next time someone walks up to you on the street and says "Pssst, hey, buddy, wanna play with a Ty-Ball?" Just say "No."
A toy that uses the imagination December 30, 2000 retrowens (Alabama, USA) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
The Magic 8 Ball is a great toy for kids who have a good imagination. Sometimes when I'd see one of them in a store when I was a kid, I'd pick it up for a minute and asks questions and shake it up to see what it would say. Now my little sister got one and plays with it all the time. She'll ask something like "Is it going to rain today?" or "Is my brother stupid?" and then she'll shake it up and laugh at the answers that come up. All you do is ask a question out loud or in your mind, then shake the Magic 8 Ball and a prism shaped object will float to the top of the water inside it, revealing an answer such as "My guess is no" or "Can't decide, ask me later."So pretty much, the Magic 8 Ball isn't a game you play or anything like that, it's just something that kids can use their wild imaginations with and actually have a little fun while they're doing it. The Magic 8 Ball doesn't really have much educational value, but it is durable. You don't have to worry about it tearing up after somebody drops it or if it falls on the floor or anything. I recommend the Magic 8 Ball to anyone who has any kids in their family that have good imaginations.
