Nice that it's just the blocks January 2, 2008 Joe Sixpack -- Slipcue.com (...in Middle America) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
I like that this is a package of just Lego bricks, and not all the fancy prefab cars, house, people, etc., that most people think of as Legos nowadays. Personally, I think the more fancy you make the Lego sets, the less they stimulate imagination -- just having geometric blocks and building with those seems like pure creative thought to me. That being said, it's worth pointing out that these are *small* basic Legos (ie, the connecting dots are the smallest size). Does anyone know where we could find a comparable basic set of the larger-bore size?
Good enough for my great-nephew July 18, 2008 Judy K. Polhemus (LA) 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
Finally, I found a gift for my eight-year-old great-nephew that he completely loves! The big pile of legos you see in the sales picture actually comes in many separate packages encased in a big plastic box with lid. I didn't know the plates come separate, but luckily he had some from another, much smaller box of legos he already had on hand. (If this is your first Legos purchase, you need to get some plates, necessary for stabilizing the created structures.) I dropped off the box at 8 in the morning. When I returned at 1 pm, he had made two incredible structures with two of the plates. They were creative and aesthetic. I had no idea what could be done with legos. The limit is one's imagination, and legos challenge that. The fact that these legos do not come in pre-packaged creations (Star Wars themed figures, for example) make this box require the use of the mind and imagination, dexterity and coordination. I was impressed with what my nephew could do and will do. Legos of the non-structured form come highly recommended! Just don't forget plates!
lego set for grandkids January 15, 2007 Lego Lover (USA) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
My grandchildren loved the Basic Lego set and are enjoying it. However, because it was purchased through a vendor that uses Amazon, I was not entitled to the free shipping. I thought this was unfair.
great set November 13, 2007 B. Jen (United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a great Lego set. None of the tiny one and two stud pieces that are almost useless. The smallest piece is a four-stud brick. And it came with a plastic storage box that I wasn't even expecting! A great toy AND a great value!
Delayed shipping, but product is what it is February 8, 2007 Terri Bastedo (Birmingham, al) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
I did pay a lot of money (more than purchase price) to have this item expedited. It didn't show up in time. However, the company made good by returning a few of the shipping dollars, and the product is what it is, without the "themes" you have to purchase in stores. The experience -- other than the delay -- was fine.
