Not good for younger kids March 19, 2006 MR (Hicksville, NY) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
This set is not appropriate for young children. The food items are made of solid wood so they are very HEAVY. The food items also don't have familiar shapes and would only be recognized by children who can read (e.g., a wood block with the word "cereal" on it).
Too heavy for little hands January 2, 2006 JHD (Southern California) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
My three year old enjoyed playing building blocks with these but they weren't practical for her kitchen. The articles were somewhat heavy with sharp corners. When they fell off her kitchen while she was playing, they became a problem when my baby was next to her.
"Wood" you find this food fun? January 5, 2005 W. Rhamy 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
We LOVE Melissa & Doug products and this one in-particular has been our daughter's favorite! She's had this wooden food set for over a year and each one is in excellent condition. The wood and paint takes a beating, since she loves to put them in and out of her grocery basket, stack em', knock em' and re-stack em' over and over. They'll last forever and she knows each peice by heart. I hope to keep these for years, so her children can play with them as well. So much better than plastic!!
Time To Shop! December 28, 2004 Amy Wertheim (San Francisco & The Netherlands) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
These are fantastic. The "boxes" of dry goods are sturdy, colorful, well made and are hefty. My son, who's turning 2 in a few weeks, just received these as a gift and he really gets a kick out of "cooking" alongside me. Great for pretend play! I also like that they are "generic" styled goods - orange juice, salt, sugar, rice, etc. No name brands being foisted on our young uns! I imagine these will be a favorite in our household for quite some time. I also think they're fine for kids under 3; especially if your little one is starting to enjoy "pretend" play, as mine is. Safe, durable and a lot of fun!
Good but Heavy December 27, 2005 Jenn B (Vermont USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I think the food items are good since they are made of wood and not easily destroyed as some of the cardboard ones are. The only down fall is that they are heavy.
