Fun but fragile June 3, 2007 Tracy Claycomb (Rowlett, TX USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have no idea what the other reviewers that claim their cubes were so durable were doing, but the inner squares on my cube pop off no matter how much care I take with the cube. The piece has a very thin, delicate neck and breaks very easily. Also, the stickers were wearing off within two weeks of using the cube. I contacted the company on the box and they were kind enough to send me a replacement... which the stickers wore off after two weeks of use and the inner squares broke no matter how much care I took. I have found replacement stickers on the Rubik's website so I've been able to solve the falling-off-stickers problem. I've rated this toy as 5 stars on fun because, even though it is very frustrating when the squares break, it's been kind of a new puzzle taking it apart and supergluing the pieces back together every time they break (think 'model-building'). I've been able to play that game well over 20 times so far between the two cubes I have now (the one I bought and the replacement cube). I just recently took the two cubes apart and made one good cube with the unbroken inner corners. We'll see how long this one lasts.
James Best's 5x5 Review August 2, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The cube is very fun and cool, but the colored stickers started falling off after a few days. In my opinion, it was still worth it. I will not purchase replacement stickers because they won't stay on. I just used colored permanent markers on the squares missing stickers.
Colors Peel Off Too Easily May 14, 2007 Jerome Kelly (Fullerton, CA USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I don't know why I didn't buy one of these sooner. Just to look at it through the packaging is worth any reasonable full price. The process of solving it is a combination of solving the 3x3x3 and the 4x4x4 cubes, though I haven't actually solved it yet; there's a little more to it than that. There are a few websites out there that supposedly step you through the solution of the Rubik's 5x5x5 "Professor's" Cube, but understanding and interpreting the written instructions seems to take as much skill as figuring it out by yourself. The thing that disappoints me most about this particular cube is how easily certain stickers start to peel off. I had to go out and buy some super glue to stick the peeling corners of the top layers of the stickers back down. It's not the kind of thing you want to get up and do less than a day after you've started playing with this very cool toy.
Much Fun July 19, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
About 2 months ago I bought a 3X3 and decided to solve it. The first time, it took me about one hour to solve. In three weeks I was down to just under one mineut, not fast by some standards, but it was fun. I then turned to the 4X4 cube. This one was a little more of a challange. It took me about 4 hours to solve this one for the first time. Finally I moved on to the 5X5. This one took me one hour to solve the first time and I am now down to about 5 mineuts to solve (mostly because you are not able to turn it very fast without tearing it up.) This one is no harder than the 3X3. In fact if you can solve a 3X3, you can sove this cube with the same algorithms joint with simple intuition. Overall very much fun. And a great way to waist a couple mineuts if your bored of the spherical nature of everything around you.
Minor Shipping Issue February 29, 2008 R. Benson (KC, KS) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got the product within a good amount of time, the only problem was the condition of the box when it arrived to my house. I don't know who Amazon uses for their shipping but they might want a better quality control system or something. The box, when I found it, showed evidence of being smashed. The corners were all indented and one of the sides looked like an accordian. The top of the box was halfway open and the tape was barely holding down the other side. The box, which was laying on its side on my doorstep could easily be seen into. If I had ordered something that could be considered even slightly "fragile" it would have no doubt been broken. Though the product I ordered was unharmed, I would like to see a change made in the shipping procedures. This was the first time I have ordered something from Amazon and I would have to say that I was less than impressed.
