5 out of 5 stars pretty sweet, besides stuck pieces...   February 29, 2008

When I first got the cube, it had multiple sets of pieces that were welded together. After spending over an hour filing away the space with a safety pin, and moving it around for a while it worked perfectly. I hope this incident was a rare occasion and not a common occurence, but it was pretty lame, especially for a $30 rubik's cube.....

5 out of 5 stars fragile   February 3, 2007

I bought this 5x5 for my fiance. He was a bit frustrated since he wanted 3x3. Well you will definately find 5x5 more difficult and I guess my fiance didn't like such a challenge. However it's a good challenge and he'll try to solve it after I get a 3x3 one first. :) He found 5x5 very fragile. You just have to get used to it. Otherwise, it's a nice thing to have and entertain your guests. :)

4 out of 5 stars A Great Challenge!   August 17, 2007

This puzzle is a great challenge. There are so many more pieces to put together, and the smaller cubies feel great in the hand. However, the cube is inherently fragile, due to the much much greater number of moving parts (all held together by each other, buy the way). If you are careful of this cube and buy it from a place you know has a good return policy, it shouldn't be a problem, but it is easy to misalign it by accident and have a piece twist out of its spot...

I don't solve competitively, but I do spin the sides around pretty fast when solving. The durability is really dependent on the tension of your cube, which unfortunately varies a lot and isn't adjustable in this cube. I had a cube before the one I am reviewing, and in 4 days it popped and I returned it. The one I have now is nearly perfect tension, and it turns well and hasn't popped yet.

The stickers peel easily, and that is the main flaw of this puzzle. Fortunately there are sites that sell great quality stickers for cheap, but the cube really should include great stickers stock, the ones it comes with peel within the first solve.

And, of course, its a rubiks cube design, so its fun and educational.

I recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars so much better than a video game   March 24, 2008

My son plays with this constantly. several of his friends are into rubik's cubes. they even use a timer to challenge their completion time. so far very durable. they use the internet to find the algorythms to solve it.

4 out of 5 stars i like it   May 2, 2008

This is alot of fun, easier than the 4x4 i think. Its really fragile and the inside corners pop out. I super glued one back together and it has stayed. I heard that the other manufacturers make more durable ones.
