Great Video October 24, 1999 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Denise Austin outdoes Taebo hands down. The explanations are concise and her movements are easy to follow. Her workout exhausted me and I've been doing Advanced Taebo for about 3 months. I'd recommend her video over the Taebo tapes any time.
A decent workout... June 26, 2001 K. Melissa Galyon (Rockwall, Texas) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have several Denise Austin tapes and enjoy them all. Her talking doesn't bother me, but it certainly bothers my husband, so I try to work-out before he gets home!In this Power Kickboxing routine, you're basically getting a Tae-Bo work-out for a third of the going rate. Denise gives instructions on all of the basic moves during the first work-out. I think her kicks are slightly different than Billy Blanks, so be careful when doing the combinations. The first work-out will definitely increase your heart rate, so you're getting the benefit of a cardio work-out but also learning some kickboxing moves at the same time. I think this one is more intense on the cardio side than the second session. The second session is slightly more advanced with several drills involved. There are also targeted ab exercises, which is a definite plus. I have a small area to exercise in, but I'm able to do both work-outs without knocking any furniture over! Overall, I think this is a great cardio work-out for people of medium to high levels of skill. It'll be tough at first, but after a week or so, you'll know the exercises by heart. I'd also suggest alternating this tape with an abs video and regular aerobics tapes. The music is not the best by any means, so you may want to mute and/or use the radio instead. Enjoy!
Liked it, now hate it April 29, 2000 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
At first I really liked this video, however, after I introduced myself to Kathy Smith's Kickboxing workout tape, Denise Austin fell to the waste side. During the beginning of the video she shows the audience how to do the boxing and kicking moves correctly, but during the exercise portion of the video, she and the other participants continuosly do the moves incorrectly. Second, the people in the video are dancers, so throughout the video they are doing the moves in a manner in which a dancer would do them, not in the manner in which an exerciser or person schooled in cardio kickboxing would do them. Third, the people in the video are uncoordinated, there are too many mistakes, and Denise doesn't do even numbers of the same move on each side of the body. Sometimes she forgets the other side all together. I grew to hate this video. If you want a good, intense, and safe kickboxing video, try Kathy Smith's Kickboxing video.
Believe it or not--Denise's kickboxing video is very good... March 27, 2002 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As a huge Billy Blanks Tae-bo fan, I have also been using Denise's Kickboxing workout, as well. She properly instructs on the techniques and guides you along on a two, 20-minute workout set. The first is more instructional but still gives a calorie-burning workout. The second workout, "Drills" is more powerful and you feel every bit of the 20 minutes. I always go back to this tape when I want a quicker, yet productive workout. Another workout video of Denise's I use is Blast Those Last 10 Pounds, which combines a high-energy, 20-minute cardio kickboxing workout, with the second 20-minutes as an interval-training workout with weights. Another great tape! I wish Denise would make more kickboxing workouts--they're much more time efficient and very effective!
Results! April 4, 2005 Jen 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Maybe I just have really high tolerance of supposed annoying people, but I LOVE Denise Austin. Her chants such as "You can do it!" and "Its worth it!" are fun to listen to and create a positive enviroment. This tape, although its hard and makes my calfs burn, is the one that gets me results fast! Within two sessions, I notice a difference. Ive tried the gym, Ive tried dancing at home, Ive tried running and somehow I always resort back to this tape. This one and her Fat Blasting Yoga DVD are incredible. Her cueing isnt the best, but its easy to catch on. I love Denise Austin, she's the only fitness instructor that I like listening to and watching. And Ive got great abs thanks to her!
