A movie that resonates October 23, 2005 Mars 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first watched "Made in Heaven" years and years ago, not long after it was released on video, and ever since then it's been my all time favorite movie. The visuals, the acting, the storyline, the music, they're all perfectly matched and beautifully realized, forming a whole that will grab not only your attention but your heart, and will resonate with you for (quite probably) the rest of your life. If you've ever wondered about the choices in your life, if you've ever had moments when you felt lost and lonely and aching, this movie will touch you. If you've been fortunate enough to have had a significant bond with someone in your life, if you've ever been truly inspired, this movie will recapture that feeling for you. If you believe in an afterlife, in soulmates and the power of true love, this movie will reaffirm that belief, and renew your hope. It's a brilliant, moving, many-layered story, and the relative obscurity of this movie only makes it more of a gem. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. I am eagerly awaiting a DVD release.
Made in Heaven December 5, 2005 B. Hall 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I, also loved this movie when I first saw it in the 80's...I make my friends that have never seen it see it! :) I loved Timothy Hutton's performance, as well as Maureen Stapelton's ...and Kelly Mc Gillis is just a person I adore no matter what! I am posting this because almost 20 years later, thanks to the internet, I finally found out who played Emmett! If you got this far to read this, then surely you can find out for yourself, so as not to spoil the surprise for anyone that has not seen it yet... I also loved all of the musical references, and cameos...i was always intrigued by the characterization of the Thompson Twins in the movie, and how exactly that fit in... perhaps all of the music industry is really involved spiritually! Great film...especially for those with a romantic nature and/or curiousity/belief of re-incarnation and karma.
A Heavenly Romance January 15, 2007 K. Ramsdell (S. Carolina) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first saw this movie when it came out on VHS tape in the late 1980s. My girlfriend picked the movie and enticed me into watching it. I can't say what drew me to it, but it's been a favorite of mine ever since. For those who believe that there is one true love out there who you are fated to meet, this movie is for you. Timothy Hutten and Kelly McGillis are two souls who meet in heaven. When Kelly McGillis is incarnated (not reincarnated, as she was born in heaven), Timothy Hutton pleads to be reincarnated in an attempt to reunite with his soulmate. The primary story is that of these two souls unconsciously searching for each other. As another review mentioned, the plot does drag at times, but all-in-all it is a wonderful, heartwarming story. Also, the music is outstanding and it is this movie that introduced me to The Nylon's "Up the Ladder to the Roof." I can't wait until it is released on DVD.
The Best by far February 1, 2007 Peggy Hall (San Francisco, CA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I saw this movie when it first came out, shortly after my aunt died and I was devastated. When I saw it I just "knew" that is where she had gone, that is where we all go. It was very comforting. Each time I watch it, there is something new to learn, some new theory on the here and now. It has become my base for believing and I am not a spiritual person. By far this is the best movie I have evern seen! I recommend it constantly!
