5 out of 5 stars If you can't wait for DVD and/or If you missed it on TCM...   October 5, 2003

It's a lot to ask of yourself and your pocketbook, but if you absolutely *have* to watch this fantastic film in letterbox widescreen - then you might want to consider a Laserdisc.

It's terribly out of date and functionally a dead-end technology. But for the true fan of films like this - it's the only way to go for now.

This film and about a half a dozen like it are the only reason I scoured through a ton of eBay auctions trying to find a decent used LD which has the 'auto-flip' function and a remote.

That was four years ago and I *still* get tremendous joy being able to watch 'Teahouse' in a true digital widescreen format.

5 out of 5 stars One of my very favorites   May 14, 1999

This has always been one of my very favorite movies, but I have the wide screen laserdisc version, which is far superior to the VHS pan and scan format. You'll hardly recognize Marlon in this, he does a great job as usual.

5 out of 5 stars White Beach, Okinawa   August 10, 2006

I lived on Okinawa 3 yrs. Last 2 in the US Navy and 3rd as a civilian. I feel like i've known every Okinawan characher portraid in the movie. I've located every town or village mentioned in the movie, except Tobiki.
The US Navy was first put in charge of reconstruction of the Civilian Society after the war. Until Gen. McArthor took his place in Tokyo, then he changed that to the US Army. After the Army took over, the Okinawans refer to those years as the hell years of Okinawa. Upon repration with Japan, they wanted the US Army out. Now,the US Army has the smallest no. of people on Okinawa.

This is really funny. This is an old movie, but you get to see Marlon Brando play a young Japanese interpreter with an accent that you sometimes struggle to understand. You will really enjoy this.

5 out of 5 stars Great Old Movie   September 1, 2008

I remember waatching it with my mom. She loves it, so I surprised her one year a movie basket filled with all of her favorite oldies. This was one. They don't make them like this anymore!
