a.m./p.m. yoga for beginners set December 7, 1999 55 out of 57 found this review helpful
This set was well done. I enjoyed the location/background, the music, and the audio description of the poses. The audio description is nice, because after using the tapes for a while I don't need to look so much at the t.v. (which can be awkward in some poses and distracting if you really want to focus on the movement and your breathing). The p.m. video is the one I've used more (after the kids are in bed, instead of channel surfing), and although I've only been doing it for a couple weeks, I can already feel the difference if I skip a night. Mornings are more hectic here so I don't get to do that as often. Each video is only 20 minutes, though, so there's really no excuse good enough to NOT do it. I have been very pleasantly surprised at how quickly I have felt an effect from the Yoga.
Buyer Beware - this is a major lemon! June 29, 2000 54 out of 57 found this review helpful
If you are a beginner, these tapes teach you nothing. A chunk of the beginning is devoted to trying to get you to buy some yoga journal (which is where, you are finally informed, you can actually find instructions for the poses included on the tapes). Unless you enjoy paying for what is essentially an advertisement, don't waste your money on this.
a wonderful introduction to yoga by two great teachers August 2, 2001 audrey (white mtns) 48 out of 49 found this review helpful
I couldn't decide whether or not to buy these tapes, not having tried yoga before, and (with an active two-year old) having very little free time to devote to it. Then I decided I should try the tapes out, since they are so reasonable, and if things went well I could buy accessories (mat, blocks, other tapes, etc) later. Well, I've been using these tapes for about a month now and am so glad I purchased this set. Both instructors are excellent. Patricia Walden and Rodney Yee do a great job of inspiring and explaining. They speak almost constantly, but in a soothing way, explaining moves and positions. The ambient music is very pretty, and the settings (a desert and a beach) are beautiful. There are some stretches and positions I can't complete (yet!) but I do what I can and have made progress in the past month. It's worthwhile to wake up a little early or stay up a little late to use these tapes. I am feeling better and healthier. The only thing that would have improved this set would be an accompanying booklet with illustrations of positions.
Don't waste your money if you want to do more than meditate. November 19, 1999 Lauren Wood (San Jose, California) 46 out of 58 found this review helpful
I was a true beginner..never did yoga in my life, so I thought I would start at the beginning. Boy, is this tape boring. The PM section is much better than the AM, but I still say unless what you are looking for is meditation only..stay away from this video. I am heading for more power yoga instead.
Great starter tape January 19, 2000 43 out of 43 found this review helpful
Having never done yoga before, but being fairly flexible I found the AM tape to be a bit slow. However the PM tape brought in some yoga moves which I found more challenging but easy to follow along with. The 20-minute length is perfect for a quick end of the day tension releaser.
