Have you no idea of any great games that are coming out now? November 16, 2003 deltastorm16 (Union City, CA USA) 6 out of 16 found this review helpful
Yea sure, the original Counter-Strike Mod for Half-Life on the PC was definitely a smash hit, but that is ancient history now. If we attempt to dwell in this game, we might as well go back to playing our NES's and hover around our PC's over Wolfenstein 3D. As you can tell in this game's screenshots, the sub-par, stinkerific 1998 graphics technology carried over to this game, clearly making it not worth the $50 you are just about to waste. Counter-Strike Condition Zero and Half-Life 2 are coming out soon (but both keep being delayed which is not strange seeing Valve's line of fake promises), it is suggested that you stick to those. I mean, the voice chat is awesome, but even that isn't enough to bring this fossil to life again. Rainbow Six 3 for Xbox Live offers better online gameplay than this. You are also kicking terrorist butt, the graphics are much better, and the gameplay is more defined than Counter-Strike.Now, I'm not saying Counter-Strike is a completely horrible game. After all, millions of people once played this game on the PC. But now, a large part of those millions has now moved on to something else, as no one likes dwelling in the past. Reviving this classic on the Xbox is definitely a great idea, but is it really worth the 50 bucks when games like Halo 2 are going to be the same price when it comes out? Clearly, it isn't. Skip this title, and save your money for something that is newer and more-defined for this age of technology.
THIS GAME ROCKS ON XBOX November 20, 2003 J. S Thomas (Arlington, Texas USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have played this game on the computer for years and its good. Xbox just made it better. The graphics, sounds and game play are top notch, imo better than the PC. Three of the best things about this game is the multiplayer voice interaction, can be played on the big screen instead of the computer screen and the best reason is its cheat proof, no little weasly dude can come in and shoot through walls or have invencibility etc, all that have play on the pc no what i mean. Leave those people to the pc and get this game on xbox.
Counter-Strike surpasses Halo with Live Multi-Player HEAVEN! November 21, 2003 Earle Neil Wester (Atlanta) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
The greatly updated and improved graphics engine truly impressed me as a veteran Counter-Strike player, it is beautiful to look at and play. However, please understand that this game plays differently on the Xbox; it has a faster equipment menu and even features a sinister action movie style soundtrack. I found the controls to be very crisp and tight, not to mention responsive and natural (However, I still prefer a mouse). So, how does it stack up against other First Person Shooters and Multi-Player Xbox titles? I found it graphically on par with "Halo," if not a bit better paced game and with better control. Its game play, control and graphics are far superior to that of "Brute Force" or "Solider of Fortune II." It's also a great way to enjoy Counter-Strike without any online cheating. Couple downloadable content (New levels, new game play modes . . . etc) and online "Live" play support then Counter-Strike is without a doubt `THE' game. It even succeeds in surpassing the former king of FPS and Multi-play, "Halo," making Counter-Strike the single best killer application for the Xbox and Live until Halo 2 comes out later next year (if at all).
uhhhh.... December 10, 2003 NS (Salt Lick, UT USA) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was addicted to the PC version of CS and to Halo. I LOVE CS for the PC. I bought Xbox CS last Friday night for $50. The firing isn't responsive. Don't believe the graphics hype - garbage. It wasn't "visually stunning". Even with my HD setup, CS looks better on the PC. This game isn't customizable on Xbox - at all. If you don't have Xbox live, (which I have) you can only fight bots with this $50 dissapointment. It doesn't have split screen play, so you basically need an xbox for every player. Useless. This is basically the most lamest worthless $50 piece of crap that I ever bought. I tried to return it the day after I bought it - store wouldn't take it (copyright blah blah blah), so I sold it to a used game store for $20! Hahahaha. Thanks for swindling me Valve, Microsoft, Sierra. $30 down the toilet.
Recycled Everything December 8, 2003 C. Hirtle (CT USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Synopsis: the only reason you should buy this game is if you're an existing CS fanatic. I've never understood the PC craze about this game. Played it once and found the graphics, play control, and overal feel of the game circa 5 years ago. But hey, to each his own. If you like the PC version CS for xBox is really just more of the same recycled shootmeup. Yet the most disturbing thing about this game is the question of how you sell a multiplayer game w/out support for the other 3 controller ports on the xBox? System link? Why should I buy another xBox and TV when I've got ports for three other controllers on the one I already bought? Is this the future of multiplayer on xBox (M$ pushing their subscription service by releasing only games that allow subscription-based multiplayer)? CS fans with monthly money to burn, dive right in. Else, keep your distance from the drab graphics, drab sound, lack of multiplayer, weak single-player mode, and recycled nature of this game. In short, unless you have Live this game is utterly useless.
