It's Finally Here! October 14, 2003 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Mario 3 was my favorite video game growing up. But these days, my NES only works when it feels like it, and I never bought Super Mario All-Stars for SNES. Game Boy Advance is an awesome invention, and when they came out with Mario Bros. 2, I couldn't wait for Mario Bros. 3 to come out, because it's the best one. They just don't make games like this anymore!First of all, the newer Mario games seem to forget about Luigi altogether. How much more fun would Mario 64 have been if we could play as Luigi? Second, Bowser's children were a great addition to this game, and were what made this game and Mario World great games. For some reason, we never saw those 7 kids again. I'd love to see them again with the new graphics that gamecube has. To make an incredible new Mario Bros. game, all they have to do is basically take this game and make it 3D. People would buy it. Super Mario Bros. 3 is also unique because it allows the player to keep items that they can use anytime during the game, so you can have the racoon suit or the fire flower anytime you need it. The racoon suit and the super leaf were the best items that Nintendo came up with for Mario. They should have kept that instead of the winged hat in Mario 64, or that jetpack thing from Sunshine. It just looks better. Gameboy should really have another Mario game that keeps these elements and only changes the levels. Let's hope that Gamecube has a Mario game like this too.
They don't call them "Super" for nothing. November 16, 2003 Christopher Wood (New York, NY United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Finally, the game that defined the early 90s has been re-released.Super Mario Bros. 3 is by far the most fun Mario game I have ever played (with the exception of the Mario Party Series). It's awesome playablitiy set the standard for all the Mario games to come. It was so successful that it even stretched Mario into other media. For instance, the old cartoon series was based on Super Mario Bros. 3. For those of you who haven't accuainted yourself with this masterpiece, I'll explain... You play as Mario or Luigi. Your job is to recover the magic wands from the Koopa Kids and return them to their rightful owners. Along the way, you'll use items such as the Fire Flower, the Super Mushroom, the Super Leaf (which gives you the ability to fly), and the Flute (which can warp you to distant lands). Players of the NES version will tell you that this game is no cakewalk. The only way I got to the final level was by using the Flute. But the difficulty was part of the reason why it was so much fun. It was hard enough to keep you coming back, but easy enough that you didn't give up in frustration. Super Mario Bros. 3 is THE game to own if you own only one Mario game. Even today, over a decade after it first came out, it still is fun to play.
Absolutely brilliant platformer!!! August 31, 2005 The No Evil Killer (Everywhere, Anywhere, Nowhere) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Super Mario Bros. is certainly an impressive game for 1988 standards and holds up as an innovative platformer even today. The graphics, level design and gameplay make for a truly great playing experience. I never did finish the first Super Mario Bros. (as of yet) and I've never even played Super Mario Bros. 2 but now, after liking this so much, I will seriously have to consider it. In terms of originality you won't find anything particularly amazing about the jumping of one platform to the next and collecting power-ups but it's how it all comes together and works so well that makes SMB3 stand out from the rest of the competition. Some levels are tough, but stick at them and you'll memorise and master the tricky bits pretty quickly. However, that didn't stop me from crying out loud in sheer, hopeless frustration every now and again. The GBA version adds a save function (a godsend for those who hate having to spend 86 hours finishing a game in one go), slightly tweaked levels and compatibility with the Nintendo E-Reader that offers bonus levels. Considering how good this game is it's no wonder Sonic had such tough competition from a short, fat Italian plumber. Definitely one to hunt down. Graphics A Sound B (only because the famous Super Mario music is not featured) Gameplay A Lasting Appeal A
Super Mario- Super Game! May 22, 2006 Marla (Dallas, TX) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I just bought this for my 6 year old and she loves it. It is worth every bit of your money. There are 8 worlds in total and she's on World 3 right now so she still has more than half to go. The good part is you can save your progress as you go along and each world is different than the last so you don't get bored and it is quite innovative at the same time. I'm very pleased with this purchase since I don't have to shell out money as often and my kid is having a great time!
Sometimes too hard for younger players. February 22, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This game is fun, but, it is hard for some younger players (under 9). There are many different enemies and it is difficult to know when they are going to attack you. Sometimes, they are camoflauged which also makes it hard to defend yourself from them. Overall, I think this game is very hard for some younger players. You probably need to be at least 10 with some good Game Boy experience to handle this game.
