Superb! April 17, 2005 Q 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm not a big gamer. I've had my XBOX for over a year and it's mostly collected dust. I love driving simulation games and I think rally is the most fun of the various forms of driving so I picked up RalliSport Challenge 2 based on a day and a half long online search for a good rally game. All of the reviews said that RSC2 had the best combination of realism, fun and graphics. They were right! The phisics model is incredible and the damage is very realistic. When you start an event, your car is shiny and new - but when you get to the end, you may be missing a few body parts, have a few broken windows and you're coverd in dust, mud, etc. Now THAT's RALLY! Above all though is the scenery! The graphics are so good that one of my favorite things to do is to just watch the replay of the latest run! Make you own music video! - The folks who made this game really added a cool feature with the replay options - you have full controll over the playback speed and camera selection. Because you can load your own music to the XBOX hard drive, when the replay starts you hear your favorite music playing along with the game sounds and video of your last run. As you control the playback, you can adjust the replay speed from ultra fast to super slow motion with the trigger levers - basically making a live music video out of the replay footage! Very sweet! Australian dirt, Swedish snow, British leaves, French cobblestone streets... Get This Game!

Well, as I was reading the reviews here, I thought I didn't need to say a single word as a result of most of you reviewing the game quite fairly...fairly being giving the game absolutely no less than a 4. But then I came across one review...yikes. Skipping ahead, it all started off as a normal day, me on the computer, sittin' back, looking for Rallisport 1 codes. I came across a little link at IGN.com on the Xbox channel that said "Rallisport Challenge 2" Instantly, I clicked on the link and then...BOOM! Like magic I was transferred to the page. All I could say was "Oh man, I am getting Rallisport Challenge 2." (Hands shaky and palms sweaty, of course!) But then comes today. I haven't gotten the game yet, but I have the Exhibition demo version. Got it at Wal-Mart. (Sorry Toysrus, I just live closer to Wal-Mart, otherwise I would've shopped at your store, trust me..you have a much better selection of everything videogames!) I played the game, and instantly I was floored. I was mauled by the beautiful graphics...reflections of puddles in the mud from the rain, leaves flying up in the air as I drive through piles of them, pounds of dust kicking into the air as I slide through a turn on the track...which, of course, happens to be very well designed, and does not seem repetitive in any part whatsoever. Wow, the reflection of the cars' lights shimmering on the icy asphault, the sun realistically reflecting off of the ripples in the pond nearby...and the damage effects...completely awesome..there's no technical term to describe it...none but awesome. The track designs are, by far, perfect. Not too hard to tell where you are going, not so easy it seems fake, and nothing makes you feel like you've "seen that area before" during any of the races. But the damage thing actually leads me to the games physics engine. In the first game, the cars felt pretty weightless, and they just kind of slid around on the tracks, but in RSC 2, the cars have a perfect feeling of weight to them, and they hug the track just perfectly. Well, that is, if you are up to that. The fact being that it's a challenging game leads to the perk of a damage engine. The damages are very realistic, and I was very surprised when I found that my Subaru was suddenly not handling like the very expensive car it is (or was). The bumper was hanging off, sides that I actually rolled on were realistically caved in, lights that I smashed on wall sides were suddenly not shining anymore..oh yes, and as I looked down at the ever-so-bent front end of my car, I realized that my car was veering off to the right...and, as time (and more smashings to the frontal left side of mu Subaru) went by, I realized that it was getting progressively harder to turn left..wow. Very cool, if not innovative..."innovative?!", you ask? Well, yeah, this game gives new meaning to good graphics, good level design, good mechanics, good physics, good fun, good effected-performance-whilst-getting-your-car-smashed, good everything! If you're a fan of the series, the genre, or just videogames..ah, heck, if you're a fan of living then please, do yourself a favor and go get an Xbox, go get Rallisport Challenge 2, pick up a can of Pepsi, take a sip, and pop the game in..go ahead, you desrve it. Everyone does.
RallySport1 better than RallySport2 January 3, 2005 Ricardo (California) 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
The driving and scenes are more realistic on RalliSport2, but it's not as much fun as RalliSport1. RalliSport1 gives you better courses and better cars to begin with. It also seems like RalliSport2 takes a long time to download...more so than RalliSport1.
Good. Could've been better May 31, 2004 James A. Hopkins (Memphis, TN United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The graphics are jaw-dropping beautiful. The level design is top-notch! Like big jumps? Some of the jumps in this game will have you seriously airborne. Like hairpin turns? They're here in bounty. Like ice racing? You'll be sliding all over the track! The new in-car camera is a wonderful addition. When it is raining, you'll see the windshield wipers going back and forth and even streaking! Top-notch! The sound is decent, but not great. Before the races begin, all the cars sound exactly the same, however. Meh. Custom soundtracks are supported, as usual. The single-player campaign is a lot of fun with plenty of tracks and new cars to unlock. Now, the biggie: online! This was the deciding factor for me in getting this game. Online is where it's at with racers. I was really excited to throw this in and give it a spin online. BUT! Not so fast (no pun intended)... When racing with 5 or more people, you can only talk to the person in front and behind you. Um, excuse me? WHAT?! This is ridiculous! The game supports up to 12 (I think) people racing at the same time. With that many racing at once, sure, limit who you can talk to, but 5? Come on! Then you have the horrendously bright wireframe cars that you get when you turn collisions off online. The wireframe cars (your opponents online) are so bright that I have to hang back abit so they'll get on down the road where I can see what's going on in front of me. Once again: WHAT?! But overall, it is still a pleasant experience both on and offline, because it is what it is: an excellent and beautiful rally racer.
Wow why have I not played ralley before. July 30, 2004 J. Powell (SLC, UT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I never played any rally game before, and after playing this game I really wonder why. I have played car games since the beginning of them and not played a more fun game. Well Carmageddon was really fun and I have never seen a game as open, but it was very twisted. I have all of the Need for Speed games; the whole series from one and can honestly say this is much better than even Need for Speed Underground. Some of the reviews have said that the cars seem light, and trust me if you hit a dirt road at over 60 on a corner you would swear you were floating too. I have done it at slower speeds on gravel and thought I was going to fly right off the road. I personally think there is too much traction if anything in this game. I mean really have you ever hit a corner on ice and was able to hit the emergency brake and gas and get traction? I have hit corners in real life at 40 mph and slid a car sideways on dry cement... It's a scary feeling, and that is why I really enjoy the game. Finally a game you can really drive the heck out of, and slide around corners in a way that really feels real. Most games I have played you hit a corner, bounce off a wall, or tree, or some invisible line and keep on going. In this game your car rolls, slides, drops off cliffs, and even can go off the road and hit a tree. Sometimes you find yourself in the air and the road is drifting away from you. Like I said sometimes I feel like there is too much traction. If there is a hairpin corner coming up you can hit the brakes on dirt road and stop in an instant. Nice for when your moving too fast and need to stop, but fake in my mind. Still it's the most enjoyable driving game I have ever played, and I am hooked. Some of the corners do seem blind when you go into them, but I guess that's more like life. The people that complain about those corners not being visible should go drive 100 mph and see how many corners they can see (not really just making a point). The damage is also somewhat fake sorry for saying it, but I dropped off a cliff and was still able to drive. After you play it for a while though you start to like how some things are not real. I would hate to hit a tree and have my radiator blow a hole and not be able to finish a race. It's nice that you can hit the brakes on dirt and stop in an instant for when those corners are not exactly what the guy says. So all in all I think it's the best driving game I have played. Personally though I would prefer if there was only one heads up display and it was the track corners coming up. The guy talking can get somewhat confusing when you have more than three things on the track ahead. I know they are trying to make it more like rally racing though and it does keep you on your toes. I am going to try to switch it to advanced mode latter, which gives you a number for the degree of the corner. I might like it better then, because sometimes you find that the information he gives you really doesn't say enough about the degree of the corner. After all is said, this game really makes me wonder what the future of driving games will be like when they are this good now. It would be nice to be able to add parts and have more cars, but for the game is I am completely hooked.
