Very dull February 2, 2006 Madisen (Fruita, CO United States) 12 out of 78 found this review helpful
This game has a good concept, nice graphics, and some definitely funny moments, but the gameplay is a total bore. There are two main gameplay styles: "investigation" and "trial". Investigation is the worst; it involves nothing more than checking everything in a room, talking to everyone, and a ton of pointless reading, much like an old point-and-click adventure on PC. The court sections are a little better, but not much. Once again, it's very linear; you don't have to use your brain much, just try all the options. And once again, there is a huge amount of reading. There is way too much dialogue packed into the game, and not near enough actual gameplay. And most of the talking is aimless, too; very little of it actually advances the plot. Overall, this game just tried way too hard to have good plot and characters, and left the player with little more to do than click on objects and scroll through text.
Games like this make the DS the #1 handheld! February 12, 2006 J. Bergman (Baltimore, MD) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a fun game. It's that simple. Graphics (4 out of 5): I would say the graphics are on par with most DS games. They could be better, but they don't retract at all from the gameplay. They are fun and in the same style as games like Sprung and Under the Knife. Audio (2 out of 5):The audio is where most DS games fall short. I am content with the graphic abilities of the DS, because quite simply the graphics don't make a good game. Sure they help, but the gameplay is were the entertainment truly lies. It's knowing this that has kept Nintendo on top in the handheld market. I just wish that the DS had a little more power behind it for the audio's sake. I would like speaking characters throughout an entire game, especially a game like this. And the music is so repetetive, it got to be so annoying that I found myself just turning the sound completely off. I guess they do the best they can for what they have to work with, but in this case, it's just not good enough. Gameplay (5 out of 5): As far as the gameplay goes, you couldn't ask for a much better experience. You are put in the role of Pheonix Wright who in his first trial is defending his best friend who has been accused of murdering his girlfriend. Eventually you go on to work other cases and along the way you are required to gather evidence to use in court to suppport your defense. The characters are over the top and a lot of fun to interact with. This is a text based game and I suppose you might have to be a fan of the genre to really appreciate it. But it's a simple pick up and play game that held my attention from beginning to end. I really had trouble putting it down. While a game like Sprung got a little monotonous and came down more to memorization then common sense questioning. Phoenix stays on track in that area and logic plays more of a part in the solution of the cases. I highly reccomend this game!
An Ace for Phoenix Wright October 11, 2006 Michael Knight 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
One of the best DS games I ever had. It does not take to be a lawyer to get fully satisfied with this game. Although this is a heavily text-based game (I mean really heavy!), you won't get tired of reading the storylines and following the details. I know you won't find this in any stores nowadays so try to order here at Amazon. This game's one of the best!
There should be more games like this for the DS October 13, 2006 Robert W. Zakrzewski II (Lanham, Maryland USA) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I finally got a DS and one of the first "older" games I tried to hunt down for this wonderful system was Phoenix Wright. I've been "Jonesing" for this game for awhile now. It's unique and entertaining. The choices for the court sections can be kind of linear but it's too much fun to not "love" this title. This is the type of game that makes the DS so unique and proud to say that "I own this system". More games should take note and follow in it's footsteps. This is a must buy for any DS library. Other titles in this type of catagory that are must buys are: Trauma Center and Trace Memory. This system was made for these types of games. These games are why I will always trust in Nintendo for high quality and interesting games. Game on!!
Fun, unique game with some learning going on! April 22, 2007 KDMask (Rochester, Planet Fab, NY) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
When my son ordered this game I wasn't sure what to expect. I had no idea how a 'courtroom" drama could be played out on a DS. Much to my surprise he not only loved playing the game, he has learned quite a bit about the judicial system. There are a lot of sites on the net that can help with strategies for play and he's really gotten a lot of the whole experience. The ultimate in role-playing for thinking gamers!
