Because I *so* enjoy wasting money... October 7, 2007 J. Ryan (Bronx, NY United States) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was so excited to buy this product and became even more excited to see it arrive at my doorstep. After that, however, all the fun was exterminated. Once installed, I was forced to look at my monitor loop the words "Waiting for DS" in the code manager window for a half hour without anything happening. After rebooting, reinstalling, using different USB ports, praying to any deities I could think of, google-ing through numerous message boards, and after waiting for a day or two to try it again, I am still left with a useless product. I am not the only one who suffered through this as well, since going though message board after message board (as well as a few reviews on Amazon) I see that there are many in the same boat as I am. It's not even the newest generation (where you put the DS game directly into the AR itself), rather it's where you have to switch the AR and game out to actually play. That may not have made much of a difference, but I was expecting the most up-to-date software/hardware available. My friend had used his AR on my computer and it worked very well. I assumed mine would work just as well. I would have liked to have reviewed this product with a slightly less horrid tone, but it was hard for me to find anything great about a usless USB cable and DS cartridge.
Not the best product Datel ever made January 11, 2007 T. Lemke 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased this Action Replay a few months ago. I have to say I am very dissatisfied with the product. First off because the advertising doesn't really specify that yes, you need a computer to run the software to update the codes for various DS games. Nor does it say anywhere on the packaging of the product or in the advertisement just what computer specifications are necessary to perform this update. It turned out my computer wasn't able to be used for this. And there is no way to enter codes in manually, to my knowledge. I say to my knowledge, because I was unable to get any replies from the company to my emails asking about this. They never once tried to contact and help me with their product. I recommend not buying this product, especially since the company making it doesn't seem inclined to help their customers.
Frustrating Piece of Junk August 2, 2007 LBCBetal 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
The documentation is among the worst I've read, including the instructions for setting a cheap Chinese watch. The user interface is by far the worst I've seen. On the Main screen, the top display includes a logo, the version, a status bar and 3 numeric fields which are not described. The bottom display has a Start button, a mouse icon, an asterisk icon and a wrench icon. The documentation doesn't tell you which does what function, but it's not too hard to figure out. Tapping the Start button starts the game. If you have the patience to sit and tap on the other buttons for long enough, something else might happen. Or might not. If you get to the Code Select screen (the asterisk icon), you see a list of codes in the top display and 6 icons plus a Start button in the bottom. The documentation doesn't mention the Start button. It seems to have been added because people couldn't figure out the icons, which include three navigation arrows, another asterisk, a box of some sort, and the icon that people couldn't figure out was supposed to mean Start. I don't know how to describe it. We never got any of the other icons from the main screen to do anything. Since we couldn't get to the Update screen, we could never connect to the PC. I'm sure that would have been a whole new adventure.
AR DS: Let the Fun Begin.... October 24, 2007 Brendan2k5 (Boston, MA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
It took Datel 14 months but they finally pulled through on their promise of an Action Replay for the Nintendo DS. Released late August 2006, the Action Replay DS (Also called the AR DS for short), like its other console counterparts allow gamers to modify their games to play it outside said game's original design. For example, one can use it to have infinite health in Phoenix Wright 2 and 3 or to get every Card in the Yugioh Games. The ARDS isn't without it controversy and critisism. Since its release, there have been reports of people using the ARDS to give themselves an unfair advantage while Playing one of the 30+ DS games that have online play. The most popular game thus far appears to be Metroid Prime Hunters. While it is true the Action Replay is made to make gameplay a bit more...interesting, that doesn't mean it's bad. I like to look at it as a means of fulyl exploring every nook and cranny of a game including areas you're normally not supposed to have access to. It's a good buy and I'd reccommend it for those who are tech savy or those who are into video game design.
When it works, it's great January 25, 2008 Rebekah L. Sprecher (San Jose, CA USA) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
We got this to work once. After that, the PC stopped recognizing the DS. Support from Code Junkies is all but non-existent. So we are basically stuck with an overpriced cable, cartridge, and CD that do not work any longer. If I hear from Code Junkies, I'll be willing to amend my opnion, but for now we're out of luck.
